Nice. Kamehameha Best spell in game.

For those who want Soul Stream. You find it in Grand Archives past the outrider Knight, which you can find by going up the ladder next to the wooden bridge. It's a totally sick spell with multiple damage frames, perfect for catching people who like to roll forward through spells. It also has a near 0 travel time and ridiculously long range, which means that binocular sniping is very viable and super hilarious when you invade a gank squad and just nuke one of the phantoms waiting for you before they can react. Bonus points if they're doing the welcome emote from 50m away.

It sadly doesn't have any tracking once cast, unlike a certain enemy and it'll takes 60 FP as well as a massive amount of stamina, so it's serious backstab bait. The animation is also unique, so its easy to tell when someone is casting soul stream. Totally worth using though.

sure is a shame it took 3 +10 staffs and all of us at 50 int to kill one guy. not to mention the 5 second cast time and how lazily strafing left is all it takes to dodge

It works better when you're using an SL60 cheese mage build against people who haven't learned the maneuver of listing lazily to the left.

But yeah. It's wildly inconsistent and only really good against people who like rolling forward through spells or in narrow corridors.

I've recently begun using parrying shields (hawkthorne's for fashion souls) and Estoc users are pretty easy to parry first hit almost every time. After the first parry they get wicked scared and lose their stabspam advantage and just die to my two handed swings.

I saw a mage in a fight club using mostly Magic Greatsword and Farron Flashsword, and it was working pretty well for him. I managed to beat him but it was still pretty close, and it probably helped me that I saw him fight before fighting him myself.

I feel like it's like airpower in Battlefield 4. OP/Ez mode in every single previous game and average in the latest.

Out of spite I'm kind of going "Well, now you know how it feels." even as I know deep down that it's unfair for a whole playstyle to be THAT useless.

It's only OP in PvE, and thats only sorta true. There's a lot more effective cheese than spells they just dont require as much investment at first. The big cheese has always been the jumpy moronic roll spammy straight/estoc/katanas.

It's not really OP in PVE, either. It can cheese some encounters that are difficult for melee, but overall it's not really any easier. Many enemies, including bosses, punish casting very well.

Yeah, as a sorcerer the only boss that truly felt easier due to being a sorcerer was Nameless King. Abyss Watchers were pretty easy once I got their timings down as well.

All the other bosses punish sorcery just as much, if not more so than melee.

I found I could shoot the trees ballsack pretty easily, but it may be that melee was a much better option with a nice katana or straight sword.

well hidden body is just broken OP against every thing other than bosses. they literally never attack you. even with bosses you can just sprint a decent distance away from them and cast your spells twice or so. i found them all quite easy. the only one that seems to punish this was crystal sage.

      Nah. Ds2 had good spell variety with projectiles with differing speeds. I would frequently cast whatever that quick hex was a few times to get someone to roll early on then switch to homing heavy soul arrow to change the pace. It hit them coming out of the roll probably 70% of the time because they got too used to immediately rolling once the cast animation was finished, and stunned enough to get me a hit or two before they recovered. So much damage. Magic was great.

      Edit: In DS 1, offensive faith was even pretty baller. Wrath of gods came out fast enough that I would often bait someone across a bridge or around a corner and just drop them with a blast. Since DS2, wrath of gods has been more like wrath of garbage.

      I think pure mage builds have always been an issue in PVP unless you really just want to kill someone in 1 second 10% of the time. But I feel like if you just go for utility magic, it's pretty alright.

      I remember being surprised by my mundane build in DaS2 how many useful options I had in PVP. Passably acceptable pyromancy, some seriously kickass hexes (Darkstorm was situational but pretty fun) and all the utility magic I wanted. Charmeleon, invisible weapons, buffs, etc.

      Dark Souls 2 was amazing for casters in PVP. If nothing else, being able to switch between your normal soul arrows and your slow soul arrows made dodging hard as hell due to the odd timings.

        I think you might be able to pull it off if you also level dex up to 25 (I think) to reach cast speed cap. You probably won't be able to pull out your scholar's candlestick though.

        No. Casting Speed stops increasing at 45 dexterity. The Sage Ring +2 will allow you to hit the cap regardless of your base stat. Soul Stream takes a good 2.5 seconds to cast - even Soul Spear (at around 2 seconds) is much too slow.

        It's not bad if you have a Sunbro to keep the boss from ever focusing on you..and then making sure you roll spam away desperately when it inevitably does.

        Oh and you can only use Greater heavy soul arrow, every other spell is horribly inefficient FP to Damage wise so once you got Greater Heavy Soul Arrow you're basically done experimenting with magic as every other offensive spell is crap.

        Exactly, I was trying to really state just how fucking much it sucks. Your only real ability to execute it is to never take damage. Damage results in a squishy splat on swing two if you were using a shield, swing one if you werent.

        Add to that if you decide to go with a Crystal weapon you're using a shit tier split damage weapon and a very large chunk of the game gives you a big "Fuck you" to magic damage with high resistances to it.

        While this is true, mage builds are even more punishing than most other builds because of the sheer stat requirement for them to be effective coupled with the delay of cast times and the reduced number of estus for FP replenishment.

        It feels more like a SL1 run than an actually viable build - a challenge for sure if you're looking for one, but not something I could see myself doing on more than 1 character.

        I should give a fresh play through a go. I found the game just brutally unfun by the time I got to Frosty Valley thing. I could do it, but there was no "Ah haaaaa, I can do this and it's fun!" moment like when you find Big Hat or that guy in that shitty warf zone.

          I started working on a pyromancer and I'm not sure I want to finish the game. Not only is the damage pathetic but the stat investment is also nuts. Also, to whoever on the design team decided spells should drain both FP and stamina - you probably have a potato for a brain.

          Pyro isn't bad damage wise. Using a fire weapon and pyrohand, I havnt had any real issues yet, and the distance definitely helps in some instances. That said, you are 100% on the stat requirement. It's absurd. I get that if it were just 1, it would allow crazy strength/pyro or dex/pyro builds like before, but there's gotta be another answer.

          Faith, intelligence, attunement, dexterity for casting speed, and even endurance (again, fuck whoever thought it was a good idea for spells to drain stamina). To top it off, they put the decent faith/int scaling weapons and infusions much later into the game... Pyro seems great early on because of how many enemies are vulnerable to fire. Against the dancer, my +3 fire longsword was doing half the damage of a +4 glove fire orb, but its swing speed and lack of cast time gave me better DPS overall. After dumping all my stats into faith and intelligence, I expected something really good - what I got was mediocre in PvE and horrendous in PvP. Dex/pyro was really fun in the previous games, but good luck trying to fit such a build into the SL meta.

          That's unfortunate, I did my second play through as a pyro as well and it was MUCH easier than melee (pure solo too, not even npc phantoms).

          Took until fifth boss ish for it to really come together, but pretty much everything irithyll and beyond was completely trivialized by rolling directly away from the boss and throwing a chaos fire orb (and the occasional carthus flame arc).

          Farming grass in the swamp was so tedious but I wasn't surprised that pyro sucks in PvP. I tried to combo melee with great combustion but GC's stamina drain was leaving me open for attacks - not to mention its tiny range. What bugged me more is that after dumping points into nothing but faith and intelligence, I was doing only a little over twice the damage of my shitty fire longsword with a fire orb. I wanted to kill the Dancer before the Abyss Watchers, but after several deaths that were the result of 0 stamina after a cast, I'm not sure I want to play as a spellcaster anymore.

          It gets better once you're high enough level to be able to be able to level up vigor after reaching a decent level with int/fth. At any rate, you'll get better with low stat requirement spells like Fire Orb until you can find Chaos pyromancies which have no stat requirements.

                60 is the second cap for Int, so magic clutch would increase your damage and nuking potential. I'm using scholar so I can hit the requirements for Crystal Souls Spear

                The problem with this spell is that anything except for a direct hit only does like 160 damage due to the tick damage. Against bosses though? I do like 2k damage per spell use. :P

                I've been doing a Dex/Int playthrough for shits and giggles. God it's trash. I mean, the Dex side of things is doing fine but I rarely use any spell other than Great Magic Weapon because 9 times out of 10 my Uchi's worth way more to me in a fight than spells are. It's bad enough spells are super nerfed but the stamina damage from casting is fucking stupid.

                I beat the game on my 2nd playthrough as a mage. Instantly respecc'd afterwards. Absolutely hated it. Bad damage, long cast times, easily avoidable. They really need to at least make magic cost no stamina, or seriously buff quite a few spells. Having to invest into attunement just means less health/stamina so now you're survivability is down as well. It's way too annoying to recast buffs every 15sec during a boss fight to be able to do decent dmg or take a hit.

                Especially when I can do more dmg, at 10x the speed with a fucking estoc.

                pyromancers trivialize pve, but are useless in pvp, meanwhile mages suck at both so there you are

                I'm a pyro in PvP and i wreck with it. I still lose, but that's normal, cause good players will always give you a run for your money.

                    The only effective spell I've been able to use is the homing crystal souls mass, but you gotta bend the system a bit. Don't lock on to the enemy, turn your back to them, and backstep a few times to get close. Do some quick forward/back motions on the stick do quick fire some of the balls one or two at a time. Pretty much impossible to dodge, but again the damage is so pitiful that it really just serves to piss the other guy off.

I just respec'd to quality and I'm speechless. I'm sure at SL120 it will be a different story, but at SL55ish, it is terribad.

                    I'm SL 110 with 70 INT and every piece of spell damage gear.

                    It doesn't get better. My crystal onikiri can hit just as hard as a GHSA in half the time with almost no cost associated with it. Soul stream hurts bosses but it still does less than a well played GS or UGS build would do, and without the drawbacks.

                      Golden Wing Crest shield? Ooh, interesting. A spell parry shield, there were a few in DS2.

                      I'm pretty sure I fought one guy with this since he was able to shield tank my other spells fairly effectively, but he never tried parrying. I don't know whether Soul Stream can be parried, but for some reason I don't think you can.

                      Sorc build is working fine for me, 55int court staff, Crystall soul spear spam. I can get all boosted up with candle/crown/clutch when I want to, or I can wear normal armour and use my guiding moonlight with intermittent CSS

                      As I said, it has no tracking and you're locked into your animation a good half second before you actually start casting. It is super easy to punish someone for casting this spell and the damage output isn't much higher than CSS

                        What /u/fisting_club said, but instead, watch the Battle of Gods and Revival of F movies, they're the first two Super arcs anyway, but the movies are much better in my opinion than the entire arcs in the series that they take up. Mostly because the animation is wildly inconsistent in the series and you don't miss much anyway.

                        If you're interested in following the story, reading the manga adaptation is a good alternative. It rushes through the plot points, but it covers them enough to be servicable, while being a carbon copy of Toriyama's style from the original Dragon Ball.

                        Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. This is from the new Dragon Ball Super anime. Currently it is only available with English subtitles.

                        Him and Vegeta became Super Saiyan Gods somewhat recently. They look kinda like Hercules did after he was made a god in the Disney movie.

                        Goku was made a god through a ritual using 5 other Saiyans (Vegeta, Trunks, Gohan, Goten, and Pan). Vegeta made himself a god because he couldn't stand Goku being stronger than him, but didn't want to have to rely on others for his power like Goku did.

                        When you go Super Saiyan while also being a Super Saiyan God, you go Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (aka Super Saiyan Blue).

                        This for essentially replaces Super Saiyan 4 as the next tiered powerup as GT is not canon. You don't have to progress through Super Saiyan 3 to get to Super Saiyan God. This is entirely separate. Being in god form also means they have God Ki. That means that they prevent their Ki from "leaking out" and become much more powerful. As a result, mortals cannot sense their energy.
