A better choice for old water would've been Half Life 2.

While I know Watch Dogs was a disappointment critically, there's still a part of me that wants to play it.

It clearly wasn't anywhere near as polished as GTA, but I had fun with it. You can get it super cheap now, too.

It was a good game, it had clearly been heavily downscaled though. Just do not come to it expecting the freedom of a GTA title and you will have fun.

Whatever game the first image is, it's better than Watchdogs.

Oblivion?

Yup. Oblivion. The best Elder Scrolls game.

I got to it too late. Started playing at Skyrim. Tried it afterwards, couldn't do it. Would probably be different if I had a PC and modded it.

Went back and started playing Oblivion after recently finishing Watch Dogs, made this comparison after seeing the water again for the first time.

Woulda been better to include the "open world game" distinction in the title I think, other games the difference isn't as drastic. But yeah Watch Dogs had really nice looking water compared to the rest of it

The water in isle delfino still looks good today!

Far Cry Instincts Predator on the Xbox 360 had some great water for the time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9LC1ikgINA

Not a gamer. The water looks much better, but the man looks like a corpse.

Definitely been a big jump in water FX after about 2013. Wonder if some new technique was introduced because even 360 version's of GTA5 water looked way ahead of most games when it came out.

The new consoles meant companys that wouldnt normally attempt to push boundaries had more to work with, hence why we got some nice stuff.

The 360 version was probably rockstar working some of their trademark magic.

What do you mean probably? The 360 had half a gig of RAM and they made GTAV run on it. That's not just magic, that's straight spellcraft.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion on the left, Watch Dogs on the right.

All I know is watch dogs doesn't even have an animation/effect if you shoot the water, like nothing happens which is disappointing.

Sonic adventure had one of the most refreshing.

*after I refinish the tutorial

The downvotes are interesting. People must have gained some respect for Watch Dogs recently. I remember when the hype train crashed because reflections sucked and it was deemed the worst game ever... I guess people must have actually played it by now.
