Until now, most of the people going to Hanlan's point were gay. While I appreciate how the "straight society" has been accepting of gay culture, at least try to respect the norms of the place and try to blend in

Huh? It's a public, clothing OPTIONAL beach. What the hell does your sexual orientation have anything to do with it?

Gay guy here. Op can gtfo. Lgbt culture is build upon the foundation of acceptance and tolerance. Don't need your judgement of what others ought to be wearing.

I've been going to Hanlans for years, and can confirm. For the past couple of years the majority of people that have been going there happen to be gay. It was one of the few places my GF can tan topless without feeling like a carnival show. I haven't gone in a long time and what i'm reading kind of scared me. I think the only way to get it to how it was in the past, is if all the gay man went back.

"clothing optional"

If it was that difficult to spot naked people, then you were in the wrong section of the beach. There is a clothing optional and clothing mandatory section.

On another note, Hanlan's point in my opinion is the best beach in toronto. The water is clean and the beach is a little more private. To require people to have to be naked to enjoy one of Toronto's nicest public spaces really isn't fair.

The beach is for everyone. Gay, straight, children, clothed, naked. Get over it. If you want to go to a place full of naked gay guys why don't you just go to Steamworks?

Steamworks is for sex. I didn't come to beach for sex

Then what does it matter what sexuality the people at the beach are

Your problem is a common one in a city with too many people and not enough places to go, eventually people overcrowd the popular spots and leak into places that were once more private and held special meaning to groups of people that end up getting forced out

City life :( it's only gonna get worse

Because "You're naked and holding another man's hand, I'm going to kill you"

Do people in Toronto still do that? I feel like the odd person might say rude ignorant shit but I image they'd be shut down pretty quick by anyone around, this is 2016 after all

Please. My burkini is on fleek.

Do not take off your clothes unless you have ANOTHER set of clothes on underneath!

You will never have a government that will mandate nakedness on public property. Any discussion past that is complete waste of time.

The only thing that will kill the vibe at Hanlan's is the perception that people there will try to police what you do or do not wear, or attempt to claim it as "gays only" space.

There was already one high profile story in the Star this summer about militant nudists intimidating visitors about taking their clothes off. This kind of thing could easily lead to the clothing optional status being revoked. For fuck sake, just mind your own business and leave others to do what they want.

I've been hearing about the straight invasion of Hanlan's Point for years. Actually, mostly I've been reading about it - from complaints in Xtra back in the early 90's, to complaints on the internet today. I've only been to Hanlan's twice, and that's in the last 4 years. The first time I went, there was a group of Polish men sitting next to us (me, my gf, and our good friend; we were all naked btw) chatting up our friend. They were all naked. So was the boy child one of them was a parent to, who had zero interest in the naked people around. That kid was having a great time playing in the sand and in the lake. Whomever was the dad of that kid was also naked, and trust me, that group of men seemed pretty darn straight. My gaydar got a zero response. There are some families down there already and they seem cool.

I'm of two minds when it comes to Hanlan's and the nudity issue. I respect the fear of the queer and gay erasure a majority straight crowd brings. I understand the frustration at a queer/gay space being gentrified into a non-gay space. I understand the anger and resentment felt about clothed straight people gawking at naked queer and gay bodies. But I'm also unwilling to accept the mostly older, white, gay men policing of what can and cannot be worn in a public space, especially what women wear. Don't you tell women to take off clothing. I don't care how gay you are, it's still misogynist.

When did OP ever say that?

But I'm also unwilling to accept the mostly older, white, gay men policing of what can and cannot be worn in a public space, especially what women wear

OP never singled out women, why are you trying to push this agenda that has absolutely nothing to do with the original post?

Are you familiar with Hanlan's Point, and the issue of gay/straight use of the beach, as well as naked/clothed use of the beach? Are you familiar with the recent Toronto Star article about people being told to take off their clothes? It's pertinent.

What makes you think I fit this demographic?

Well, your post fits that demographic. Your comment history reveals that is extremely unlikely.

Now that I know you feel this way I'm gonna l start going more often, in clothes. It's only optional to take them off.

I certainly hope you don't think you are entitled to seeing nude people at a clothing optional beach.

Number 1, most people who go there don't use Reddit. Number 2, people aren't going to take their clothes off because a whiny anxious dimwit on Reddit thinks they should. Number 3, why do people bother with this kind of whiny anxious post?

Never been there but if it's a public, clothing optional beach, suck it up, snowflake.

Anyone can go there and anyone can wear whatever they want there.

Go fuck yourself OP, your opinion isn't valued here.

[–]ur_a_idietThe Bridle Path [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Nobody who looks good naked will ever see this (or any) Reddit post (except me).

[–]laughingfireEglinton West [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

It's a clothing "optional" beach. Optional means that you can disrobe as you see fit, or not. That's how "optional" works.

Just say what you really mean, you and every other person who has complained about this seem to want to make it no longer "optional" to disrobe, but mandatory to disrobe.

You guys are totally in the wrong and need to get the sand out of your ass crack about it.

Edit: why are you complaining about being able to "spot" the naked people? I thought the general etiquette was not to attend such a place just to gawk at naked people?

That's the problem with white straight dudes. They look just like us...

"I am afraid" - maybe you should stay home, it sounds like the tolerant world scares you.
