What did you guys think of Mkhitaryan's performance yesterday? (self.reddevils)

Personally, I thought he was fantastic.

He was great, he offered pace, movement, the unknown factor everytime we go forward. We become a lot more direct and threatening after him and Rashford came forward.

No offense to Mata I think he did well but imo Mkhitaryan should start ahead of him everygame. He seems more creative, willing to dribble and create and seems very good at occupying space than Mata.

On the side notes, we should give Martial a rest so he can sort out his shit before it's too late

I would argue that Rooney should be dropped and both Mata and Mkhi should play. They can play each other's positions, so the interchange will be fantastic, which we caught a glimpse of during preseason.

But Rooney won't be dropped. He was poor in the previous few games and wasn't dropped. Why would Mou drop him right after his class play rescued us 3 points

This is a derby game so I think we would need players who have been part of this before to understand what it means. I mean, Rooney is usually at his top game vs Manchester City (the overhead kick anyone!). It's not just about players, it's about Mou vs Pep. I think Mou will be lot comfortable in having Rooney on pitch compared to say, Mata or Mkhitaryan vs Pep and his team. Something tells me Mou will not want to make this game beautiful to watch, will be more like a smash and grab game.

I think is Mkhitaryan plays then it'll be on the right. Mkhitaryan provides more defensive cover than Mata anyway, wouldn't be surprised to see Lingard as well. One thing for certain is Rooney won't be dropped

Firstly, I want him out but Rooney won't be dropped so it's a moot point.

Secondly, let's not pretend that Micky isn't a big upgrade on Mata. Micky is simply the superior winger.

Thirdly and most importantly, Mata & Ibra can't play together. Too static. Same problem of two players who want to play in the hole, drift into that space regardless of where they start and can't/won't make runs behind the line.

Mata only works if we play:

           Rashford
 Lingard     Mata     Mkhitaryan

I would love to have Lingard against Pep's City. With their style (getting to tiki-taka), we would need dynamic players in the middle of the pitch.

We need his pace. Ibra, Rooney and Mata are all too slow so Miki is a good foil for the two that are chosen to remain.

Completely transformed the game going forward I thought. Made good runs with the ball, made other good runs without it, played a lot of smart passes. For me, he's like Mata in the sense that even if he starts on the right wing, he'll clearly drift into the center quite often, but with a lot more attacking vision than Mata, playing better passes forward.
