Hi everyone, I'm currently studying sociology and am planning to write a thesis on the aforementioned subject. I've been collecting/saving various posts from /r/the_donald, /r/sandersforpresident, /r/HillaryClinton, etc.
In this thesis, I hope to explore the vastly different cultures among the different communities and investigate whether or not their culture could be attributed to real life characteristics of the populations supporting the candidates. Though I'm still working on the goals of my thesis as I collect more data. I just find that it is absolutely fascinating how subreddit culture are formed for these communities and what that says about the people supporting the candidates.
I understand that my thesis is extremely narrow, and the information will be limited to just reddit, but I feel that exploring culture, themes of solidarity, and the leadership will be substantial.
With this in mind, I would love your help! If there are subreddits you recommend, specific posts, events, or redditors you think I should contact, please let me know! Also I am interested in hearing your thoughts on such a thesis, and if there are any reference (academic or otherwise) material you think I should check out, send them my way!
Please note: I have posted this in the subreddits I'm researching as well, and do not wish to pursue a political agenda with my work. I also have respect for all those contributing to any subreddit, and will remain as professional as possible when pursuing my research.
Thank you!
