He doesn't get better as the game goes along, there's just more space to operate in. Even at his peak he was a space exploiter. Impact sub is the perfect role for him.

Chelsea scored 3 today. Man City scored 4 last weekend. With the crop of players we have, we could possibly be creating many more chances and scoring more goals if a better creative player took his place. Yes, he is able to produce momentary moments of brilliance, but we need more than 90mins of shit, and then a couple minutes of good play. He wasn't as shit in the 2nd half, but the point remains.

There's players out there who can have that statistical impact while actually playing well in the general run of play.

Our options aren't Wayne Rooney or play with 10 men.

Who says if played at 10 that Mkhitaryan or even Mata wouldn't have done even better as well as playing better in general play?

Maybe if Mkhitaryan had played 90 minutes at 10 we'd have been winning comfortably not chasing a last minute winner

Abseloutley. He keeps having poor 90 min games and saves his place in the team by doing a couple of class moves every game. If we started someone else we might have had the game in the bag a long time ago and wouldn't even need a last minute goal to save the day. Fair play to Rooney for what he did, nice assist but that doesn't make up for his poor performances all around.

Also, Zlatan, Mata and Martial were all worse than him. But it seems like this sub doesn't hate them as much as they hate Rooney lol.

I want to know what Zlatan, Mata and Martial did better than him this game to impress you guys. I'm so confused.

  • Zlatan just took awful touches and botched chances all game. Didn't hold up the ball well either.

  • Martial just did whatever hes been doing for the past few games. It's strange to see him playing poorly. But he can't seem to pick a pass or consistently beat a man.

  • Mata was just absent. He popped up with that great piece of skill in the box where he did a stepover and sent the defender the wrong way. But apart from that, it was poor performance as a winger. I can understand why Jose preferred playing Lingard there in preseason now.

I'm just going to agree to disagree. This is a typical case of people only recollecting bad things he did in the game to justify their pre-match opinions on his place lol. To say he was shit for 90 mins is bs imo.

I thought he was significantly better than all 3. Especially Mata who kept cutting into the middle and overcrowding everything. Valencia was essentially our entire right flank until Mata got taken off.

Had a really rough first half. Seems like he's having trouble whenever he's closed down quickly or has his back to goal but I think he's showing that he can still be dangerous around the box with the shots he's taking and positions he's finding himself in.

It's worth pointing out that both he and Mata were struggling a lot in the first half and as soon as Mata was substituted, we really stepped up our game. It was an attacking onslaught from then on. Might suggest that a lot of the frustration expressed here was probably misplaced.

Why is everyone saying Mkhi should start in his place? After lacking a proper player to play in the RW, we bought him and now they want Mata to continue there, even though he hasn't been anything special. It's rather toxic that even after contributing (with average performances with inspired moments) positively there's so much negativity about Rooney.
