This is something within the rules, but it's a rule designed specifically to shield themselves from criticism for when they misbehave. As a moderator of multiple subreddits, I invite criticism of me and what I do. What they do here is petty revenge for making them look bad.

I will admit here that I indeed broke the rules. It's buried there deep in their very long wiki page in a small paragraph, sort of an EULA for using the board. I didn't know about that particular rule, since the rule page is a novella-lengthed read and it's buried somewhere in there. The intention for this rule, like in fine print, is to hide it away for later so they can point to it when convenient.

But I think some rules are material for criticism and are cancer, and those rules in particular are those that shield moderators from criticism or otherwise serve to retaliate against users in some way, particularly done elsewhere outside of their subreddit. SRC is about accountability for how moderators behave, and I hope you guys agree with me that banning users for posting here about their bullshit is indeed cancer. You're free to disagree and post below. Also, I think that the main subreddits, the big default ones, need more scrutiny than other subreddits, NOT less.

Be very careful if you wind up in this situation---/u/-eDgAR- WILL go through your posting history. This is the kind of guy that thinks up secret provisions of The Patriot Act. If you're familiar with this guy you know that reddit is all the dude has. Thin skins, fat men.

That demand to find the original ban message is utter bullshit too to be perfectly frank.

I realize they use toolbox, but if that's so important why can't it create a link between the ban message (assuming you got one) and the ban action. The ban messages themselves rarely tell the full context.

The fact they even need toolbox to moderate shows just how awfully inadequate the reddit messaging system is and they of all people clearly know it.

It's hard to understand how demanding anybody find the original message to consider a reversal became acceptable mod procedure, but it's indicative of a lot of moderator attitudes.
