So back in 2015 the [iTouch ID was launched on Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1952513384/itouch-id-worlds-smallest-usb-fingerprint-scanner-0/description]. For only $129, or a mere $79 if you got in early, you could be the proud owner of a cute little USB-mounted fingerprint ID sensor made out of aluminium and sapphire glass with a projected delivery date of April 2016.
A little while later they also launched an identical Indiegogo campaign which raised another $20,000 or so by mid-March.
Things were looking good. There was an update on the Kickstarter page in March saying that they were still on track for delivery by end of April and that all systems were go!
And then that was it. No more updates on Kickstarter. No updates at all on Indiegogo. Backers started asking questions but there was no answer. It looked as dead as as a dragonfly.
Until yesterday that is. Good news! The project's not dead! Wouldn't you believe it, the two founders had had a "different vision about the future of our product" and so one of them left. Presumably the one who left was the one who was able to type and post updates to Kickstarter and Indiegogo and that was why all of this happened in silence. (Although given that the idea was pretty simple - it is, after all, just a USB-mounted fingerprint scanner - one wonders how significant the creative differences could possibly have been. They couldn't agree what colour to paint them?)
But none of that matters because the iTouch ID will now be even smaller! Which, for some reason, has pushed back the delivery schedule until December. That's rather odd when you think about it. Allegedly, back in March they were only a month away from shipping. Manufacturing must have been gearing up, components purchased, CE/UL accreditation in progress etc for them to have a hope of hitting their predicted April shipping date. But apparently they've just thrown all that away and are starting again from scratch.
How odd. One might almost suspect that it's been an utter scam from start to finish.
