Comparing the 2016 games, in terms of raw gameplay, PES is miles better than FIFA. I would say pretty much everything else is better in FIFA though, from the online play to graphics.

is that so? my last PES game was 09 and I enjoyed fifa 10 a lot more. Before that Fifa wasn't up to scratch though.

Felt that way to me. Picked up PES 16 after years of FIFA, and the biggest difference for me was instantly how much more realistic the gameplay felt. Noticed that difference again when I picked up FIFA 16.

Big call. Was exactly the same for me. Last PES I played was 9 and used to play it all the time. Will have to give the demo a shot.

People are drawn to it for the more realistic game play. But honestly I like FIFA a lot more, it's way more fun to play and the graphics and menus are a lot better.

Actually, now that I think of it everything except for the game play is a lot better. Even then sometimes PES is a snooze fest. FIFA is a lot more exciting and fun. PES is more realistic.

The new PES is pretty decent, the demo is out for PES now, you can download it and try it for yourself

For real??? Wasn't aware it was out already.

I have played the beta for Fifa 17, it's a big change this year and I'm loving it! Also man Utd are now partners with ea sports so we could support them that way!

FIFA 17 is gonna be insane with the new engine, if you just blindly pick it up every year this is not the one to change that.

Have you played the beta?

I only play pro clubs but really want to try PES this year. Will get both probably.

I've switched allegiances more times than most people who blindly play FIFA and slate PES having played a demo one time.

They're both great, and they both have flaws. PES' gameplay is a lot more realistic, a lot less predictable and the animations are a lot more realistic than FIFA's which are often a bit cartoon-y.

PES obviously falls down in the licensing department and also has a poor choice of stadia and a reduced choice of leagues. In 2017, people don't want to be playing with Man Red and Merseyside Blue. Fortunately I know a guy who does amazing option files for PES (only on PS4 however) which corrects all team names, kits etc. so it isn't an issue. If you want to check it out - follow THIS LINK. - he adds in leagues such as the Bundesliga etc.

I feel as though the general gameplay graphics of FIFA are better than PES'. However during 'cutscenes' (if you can call them that) PES' graphics are insane.

Player detail for FIFA is generally very good. Sometimes in PES there is absolutely no resemblance, though the 3D scans of players are incredibly life-like.

Online on FIFA at this moment in time is MILES ahead of PES. There's no comparison. So if online gaming is your jam, go for FIFA everytime.

After all this spiel, my answer is both. I get sick of FIFA's bullshit so it's nice to have a change to go to. I would avoid PES on anything other than PS4, however.

I've been a FIFA man since the 2009 games. Before that, it was all PES. I'm still sticking with FIFA from what I've seen and heard of the latest versions and also, comparing my experiences with the 15-16 games that I bought for both FIFA and PES.

I just cannot understand why people say PES is more "realistic". I really can't. Not to start a war here, just my plain, humble opinion. PES feels a lot stiffer, more robotic (less fluid) in many aspects of the gameplay. FIFA is far from perfect and the "scripted" passes (damn through balls in 15-16) are horrid. But the OVERALL feel of the simulation to me is superior in FIFA.

And to top things this year, Man Utd and EA have a partnership. Happy days for me.

PS: I'm a FIFA fan who doesn't care about FUT. Never played it and don't think I will start anytime soon. I play for Seasons (online matches) and sometimes Tournaments (hopefully they tweak the AI for Legendary level).

I was a long term PES head, from the isspro days on the PlayStation.

It was always miles ahead of FIFA.

Then around 2008 things began to change. Pes seemed to stagnate, with not much changing from one year to the next. At the sane time FIFA started to get their shit together.

I bought both in 2010, and played much more FIFA. I was with FIFA until last year, when really positive PES 2016 reviews tempted me back.

And I must say, I'm so happy I switched back. PES has lots if faults, but, for me, it's just so much more FUN to play than FIFA.

FIFA still boss though, and it's totally debatable which us 'best' at the moment, and FIFA 2017 promises a brand new engine, which will be worth checking out.

Lucky to have 2 amazing footie games to choose from!

Fifa. Sorry but PES, despite having more realistic game play, is just too often a slap dash effort that the creators don't give a fuck about. I wouldn't be surprised if we still fucking had Falcao in the new game.

I chose PES over FIFA this year. The number of teams that you can choose when playing online is limited, (no dortmund unless you create it by yourself) and the number of bayern/real spammers is insane.

I wrote this yesterday comparing PES and FIFA's career modes. Some of it won't be relevant but a lot of it was about gameplay:

https://www.reddit.com/r/FifaCareers/comments/4zcd4c/what_do_you_rate_this_years_manager_career_mode/d6upxs2

So there may be some stuff in there but the best thing you could do is download PES 17's demo and give it a go.
