200,107 gamers with too much free time for 6 years.
All gamers, report to your battlestations at once! This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill! Subreddit Of The Day is arriving at top speeds!
Well then, don't just stand there sergeant! Engage by pressing any key and prepare for war! All gamers, whether PC, Linux, or even Mac, devote their time and money to ensure they can be the best at the games they purchase. Some gamers spend thousands of dollars on immaculate computers, while others can live with cracked computers on an old, wobbly desk. No matter how established a gamer's setup is, they will always spend hundreds of hours on it, establishing a unique bond with their setup.
The community, defines a "battlestation" as a desktop computer setup including the keyboard, monitor, mouse, and other features that makes a gamers area unique. The subreddit is known as the place to post and look at these desktop battlestations.
As you scroll down the several pages of battlestations, you will notice some are more "advanced" then others. This does not injure the fact that these setups, old or new, are truly unique and the home of the gamers who devote their life to them.
If you're interested in showing off your possibly amazing setup, or just watch other people show off there work, be sure to post and subscribe!
After looking at these amazing battlestations, I managed to speak to Admiral /u/Greypo and the Janitor, /u/noeatnosleep, both active moderators of /r/battlestations.
1. What motivates you to be an active contributor to /r/battlestations?
Greypo: I love helping out as much as I can, and reddit is basically my free-time - why not use that time wisely?
noeatnosleep: I love tech, especially computer work/play setups. I've been involved since before you could buy a processor that would quick-attach to a motherboard.
2. Do you have a major interest in battlestations? Do you own a grand battlestation?
Greypo: I have what some would say is a "laptop". While not as powerful as a battlestation, it is my battlestation, and that is all that counts.
noeatnosleep: I do! I have a pretty decent setup. I haven't spent as much as some people around here simply because I don't have the ready cash. I do have four monitors and an up-to-date i5 processor, though. I used to have a 5th, a touch screen that I used to launch programs, but that has died.
3. What equipment do you recommend to people who want to make their own battlestation?
Greypo: It really depends on what sort of things you want to do with your battlestation and how much you are willing to spend.
noeatnosleep: I would tell them to shop within their budget. Buy what you can afford. Don't spend a lot on a processor, spend a lot on a GPU.
4. Do you have anything you want to say to current and future subscribers?
Greypo: Hello! How are you? Good, that's good.
noeatnosleep: I like a lot of our subscribers. Some of them can be mean, but most of them are nice folks!
