I sincerely believed in your project and in this kind of actions in order to find support and finance.
Your attitude deeply undermine my perception on this type of crowdfunding... Hoping that you would be able to change this mindset soon...
I recently contacted Fractured Atlas (https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/fiscal/profile…) since they are a non profit who also sponsored the Midway project. They actually are in contact with him and said they would request that he reach out to us with an update, but I'm doubtful.
I support their efforts but there have been no updates from the project. I have emailed several times with no response. Has anyone been successful in getting a response?
Thanks to Kenneth Pinto for coming up with some information about this project. I also periodically come here to find out what is going on. This time I have messaged Chris Jordan directly. As a financial backer and a enthusiastic supporter of the film I am a little disappointed in the lack of updates. I hope that he will update us soon but I am relieved to see the project as not been abandoned altogether.
Every once in a while, I come back to this project, wondering what has happened.
I googled for Chris Jordan this time. He has a semi-active Twitter account. Scrolling through, I found the familiar albatross photos. Around the middle of last year, when I made inquiries to Fractured Altas, he was still giving talks about this. The gall of him?! Perhaps.
I also saw that he gave an interview. This article was quite revealing about the Midway project.
Basically, the Toronto film fest cut was "despair porn". Another cut "which Jordan worked on with a nature-film editor, moved more briskly, but he felt it was too simplistic, too much like a standard nature documentary".
Hum... It's time to start thinking all of this was a fraud or something like that? I think it's a tremendous lack of education to not posting anything in the last year. Do they took the money and run?
When I first saw the movie trailer I believed in the importance of telling this story of ecological disaster to the general public. I was moved by what I saw; I still am and still believe in the importance of telling this story.
I've got a couple of responses from Fractured Atlas, which I have permission to post. Apparently, they don't deal directly with Chris Jordan and his wife.
Email 1:
When I reached out to them at the end of May, they indicated that Chris or another producer would be in touch with you directly and told me that the film is still not yet finished. I'm sorry that no one has been in touch yet and I'm going to reach out to them again.
It's our experience that most artistic ventures take much longer to complete than initially expected. We have more than a few film projects, including short films, that have been sponsored for several years as they inch toward completion, so no alarm bells are ringing for us at this time as they have consistently demonstrated that there's forward motion on the project, even if it's incremental.
Email 2:
My contact at MIDWAY has told me that she emailed Chris and his wife yesterday about posting an update to Kickstarter and insisting that such an update was urgent. She is hopeful that an update will be posted today or tomorrow.
They said the film makers will be in touch with me.
That was almost a month ago.
I have just emailed to tell them that I have still not heard from the film makers and also to ask Fractured Atlas about their take on the progress (or rather, the lack thereof) since they have also provided/procured funds for the Midway Film.
Somehow, I get the feeling they are not too concerned.
Hi guys, I supported this project with high hopes of the good things this would acheive but the lack of feedback and updates has become really dissapointing. I understand that the film has changed tack but you've had a lot of people back this and surely it's not too hard to keep us in the loop with what you've been doing with our sponsorship money. Please will you post an update and let us know when we can expect to see this. Thanks!!
More than one year now without getting any updates from you...
Some news would be highly appreciated.
Hope to get some soon, and more important watch your movie asap.
Any news guys? I respect what you are doing with the film, but they did recently determine that fundraising site projects are 'legally obligated' to provide the rewards
It's been a while and I've not heard any updates on when this film will be finished. Is it still in production and when do you hope to have it completed by?
So proud of the work you are doing, as well as the work we as the backing community are doing to not only support the work financially, but to ensure it will be seen by as many people as possible,
We on the Midway film team are so inspired by all of the comments. YES Kevin, share with your church community; YES Hugh, let's take this film to Antarctica! Let's spread it everywhere possible. To receive updates about the film, I suggest signing up with your email address at www.midwayfilm.com or checking our Facebook page. Onward!
Awesome job, backers and MFP folks alike! I'm going to integrate this content with a series I am doing this fall through my church focused on Creation Care and our Marine environment. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Wow, the campaign is almost over...but what a great run it's been! Only 2 hours left. Please share with anyone who may still want to donate and receive a free download of the film once it's released. I've had sneak peeks of the film footage and it is breathtaking...we truly hope this film will be seen in every continent on Earth, bringing the message of the Midway albatross to all.
With three final hours ticking down, now is the time to put your donations in....this film is relying on donations from it's supporters. The awe inspiring beauty that this film will capture while relaying the message of the consequences of overconsumption will be an important step in the effort to make a change. Thank you to Chris Jordan and all of the Midway team.
Like others have stated, I'm really happy that you reached your goal ahead of time. Also, please let us know if there'll be a means to keep supporting your project once the Kickstarter part is complete. This could well involve other activities than donating money - donating time comes to mind for all kinds of outreach tasks to make people aware of the film.
Great to have reached the target. Would suggest a quick edit to the main page saying further funds are still needed and where they will go (especially the educational material). Would be good to make the most of the last day and a half.
it has been a necessity for me to support the Project, I am thrilled you will get your pledged goal and more. I wish you success , I hope it will make more people aware of the tragedies happening
in the wildlife
To the amazing Midway team...I am beyond happy that this money will help you in the making of the film. I know this is only a small part of what is needed and I will continue to do what is necessary to support you and your ever important film.
Congratulations!!!! I am so happy you manage !! and happy also to be part of it. I am now looking forwards to see the film in the cinemas!! I hope you will bring it to Spain ;-) and I hope, I will bring my environmental student to watch it, you are doing a great job in education. Congrants Midway Film Crew!
Use this space to cheer the creator along, ask questions, and talk to your fellow backers. Please remember to be respectful and considerate. Thanks!

Basically, the Toronto film fest cut was "despair porn". Another cut "which Jordan worked on with a nature-film editor, moved more briskly, but he felt it was too simplistic, too much like a standard nature documentary".
So he is working on a third cut.
My summary of the situation does not quite cut it, so you can read the article here: http://www.psmag.com/nature-and-technology/how-we-can-get-people-to-care-about-the-environment
Now, I do not think he is trying to defraud us.
However, that doesn't explain why he couldn't share his situation here.
