Corey Lewandowski may not be on Donald Trump’s campaign team, but that is not stopping him from defending his former boss.
The CNN contributor was caught in a tricky argument when he was asked why Donald Trump doesn’t do more minority outreach to improve his poor numbers with African-Americans.
Lewandowski’s spin? Donald Trump doesn’t reach out to those communities because they don’t provide “safe environments.” He told the panel:
“Look, that is a black community. He went to the heart of Chicago to give a speech to the University of Chicago in a campus that is predominately African-American to make that argument. And you know what happened? The campus was overrun and it was not a safe environment.”
The former Trump campaign manager was bringing up a Chicago rally that was shut down by an activist group called MoveOn in March.

Despite Trump’s lack of a physical presence in minority communities, he claims he will have 95% of African-American support by 2020.
