I don't want to come across rude but if you've only just recently realised this with Pokemon GO and No Man's Sky then you've been very oblivious to the situation for a long time.

I think people in general give in to the hype too much. I only buy console games on sale. If they are good enough (bo3, be, halo) they'll still be around in multiplayer well after release. There's no one to blame but consumers. If they didn't buy it and get hyped the companies would stop.

Titanfall, Destiny, Hardline, The Division, Assasins creed, the list goes on.

Honestly I just don't believe devs have adapted to Next Gen consoles yet. The amount of time and money needed is exponential in comparison to the last Gen.

It also doesn't help the Parent companies have a set deadline almost at conception. They also set marketing and tie ins that make it so you really CAN'T say "we need three more months" when the game is plastered on every Dew can and Doritos bag in the northern hemisphere.

The most damaging thing in truth is the connectivity of the consoles. Where as in the "before times" the game -had- to come out perfect because there were no patches or updates, or even versions for that matter. Devs know they can get away with showing deceptive trailers and footage, knowing full and well it won't be in the game at release, and likely never will be. However they use patches as bait to trick you into thinking they are working hard to give you what you paid for.

When reality is everyone filled their pockets and jumped ship, leaving one guy behind to take the hate.

Until there is a civil lawsuit brought against the Parent companies behind these deceptive practices, they will continue blatantly selling us Lemons without repercussions.

TL;DR : welcome to 'Murica, bitch.

I just wait a couple weeks or months after a game comes out then buy it. That way I don't waste my time.

I always wait until the hype has died down before I buy a game. Last game I preordered was the Division and by God, was I disappointed.

I only just bought Far Cry Primal and Elder Scrolls Online. BF1 will be the next game I buy on day one because I recently got BF4 and I feel like I missed out on the multiplayer because the games I join now are all pros. I can't compete with them, I stayed loyal to CoD for too long to adjust to the level BF players play.

This is why you don't give them your money before you get the product.

Super PitFall on the NES comes to mind.

To be completely fair, No Man's Sky isn't an unfinished game, its a finished game with missing features.

The last game to be fully finished was probably the witcher.

yeah it's total bullshit, i don't buy a game now until reviews are out and i can see what the general consensus is. nintendo is the only company nowadays who actually releases a polished and finished game. problem is with them is that they only make two or three big games a year.

Yes because uncharted 4 was such a buggy mess

Global warming isn't real because last year it snowed once!

How about bloodborne, infamous, ratchet and clank and until dawn? Nearly every game published by Sony interactive are well polished games and to say that Nintendo are the only ones is just silly.

Don't forget Destiny! The mother of all fuckups. They made year 1 Destiny seem like a fucking beta with all the shite they did in year 2. Then they cut content and make you pay for it all again if you want to upgrade to a next gen console.

Making games is very expensive and companies run out of money, so they just dump the game as quickly as possible to cash in. And because you can patch games nowadays, they leave that as the main option, to finish them later. Only the likes of Blizzard, Valve and Rockstar who are just shitting money, can afford to actually finish the product before selling it. Seems like evolution of the games is running far ahead of ability to develop the features properly. Gamers are demanding entire playable universes now but no one except for Valve has the money to actually make that happen. So you get to be a beta tester for $60.
