You could play a youngster instead to gain experience or rotate our many other midfielders instead.

Would much rather give the playing time to Herrera, TFM or Schneiderlin. Mou is already moaning about the lack of games, makes no sense to give any playing time to Schweinsteiger

High wages and could be negative in the dressing room

Seems like Mourinho has worked out how many players he wants across competitions this season and filled those spaces. He's also on very high wages for a League Cup backup player, in this instance it would be in our interest to sell him.

I know he is a legend but signing him was a mistake, he was past it. How many times has he played more than 60 minutes for us? He is not fit enough for Mourinhos system .

I wouldn't want to pay £200K a week just for a backups backup. No point in keeping him of he isn't going to be used. Also having a youth player as a second backup is probably a better idea.

Because you can use his spot for players like Herrera, TFM, Schneiderlin, Pereira (if he stays?), players who could actually use those opportunities to show their worth to the manager for the long term. Not to mention having Schweinsteiger on the wages he's on just for League Cup games would be ridiculously bad financial management

You wouldn't be able to rely on him for even those matches. Would get injured.

His unprofessionalism last year is not a good example for anyone, he could become a leak to the press, taking up 150k a week wage space. Just for Carling Cup games? Come on mate, I'd rather Herrera got them games.

his unprofessionalism? Is that him declaring himself to be unfit for united at the end of the season but fit to play for Germany? Or was it something else?

Pure speculation here because none of us really know but here are some possibilities I can think of off the top of my head:

  • His relationship with Mou has already soured so Mou doesn't want him around at all, negativity in the camp isn't good for the whole squad
  • His wages are way too high to be a backup player
  • Maybe he doesn't want to be a backup player and wants to start
  • Maybe he isn't even in good enough shape to play backup
  • We've got younger players who would benefit more from that playing time

I got a feeling Mourinho likely got info from inside the club, and also did his own digging and found those "stories" of Schweinsteiger staying in Germany more than he did in England, and being very unprofessional at Utd to be true.

Maybe he doesn't want that negative aura around the current crop of players.

BS is an asset but that's the only explanation I can find.

More likely the club just doesn't want to pay huge wages to an aging oft-injured backup. You're theory is complete conjecture.

Ugh. As much as I love Basti, I have been convinced that he shouldn't stay if he takes the wages. I'd love him to stay IF he accepts to get less wages. He'd be a great back up player/team leader as he's very experienced and a nice person, and only if he's a positive influence to the team

That's not how a "contract" works

[–]legojs 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

you can always re-sign a contract..

We shouldn't use him like the cutlery you save for best.
