The reason why you can find so much canned food in Fallout 4 that hasn't been eaten is because it taste awful. It's the only reason why so many people would rather eat irradiated tomatoes than a can of cram just lying on a shelf inside. The reason why your character can eat it while nobody else can is simple. Your character is based off of yourself, and if you are playing Fallout 4 you have shit taste.
