So basically your idea is to remove the character of Juno from the movie?

She was obviously distracting from the plot.

Yes. Clearly you read everything perfectly.

Not trying to be a dick, but maybe you weren't the target demographic for this movie. It sounds like you don't enjoy Juno as a character at all. All these cutesy little things are what Diablo Cody wanted in this movie.

This completely ruins the film. Clearly you weren't in the target audience; it received critical and audience acclaim

I don't care about critical and audience acclaim and I did like the movie I'm just saying I would cull a lot of the stupid shit Diablo wrote that is in there of uno reason other than to be "cute." If you think the Morgan Freeman/bone collector line is clever you must be 12.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

    Reminds me.

    "Phuket, Thailand."

Dear Diablo. This is pronounced "poo-kett".

I have to agree with everyone else, I feel like you weren't the target audience. The fact that all your replies are basically you putting your fingers in your ears and saying "lalalala you're wrong I'm right" proves that

stupid crap that no teenager would ever say.

I think what the movie got incredibly right was showing how highly specific slang was and how groups of friends develop their own unique set of idioms. The precise words were off, but the general feel was spot on. There aren't a lot of teenagers that say "wizard" when they think something is cool, but there are a lot of teenagers that adopt their own words for cool, and it's very realistic that some of them chose a word like wizard. A lot of what we're watching are someone else's inside jokes. There's no way her friend says "Phuket, Thailand" when she hears the news if it's the first time she's ever made that joke, but it's very believable to think that they've heard about a city in Thailand that sounds kind of like "Fuck it" and then decided to bring that into their speech.

I think removing her quirkiness would remove all the humor from the movie in the first place. I loathe everything you listed about her and didn't like her character at all but that's what made the movie what it is. No one talks like that in real life, no one acts like that in real life, but Napoleon Dynamite wasn't super-realistic either. They're both movies trying for a certain aesthetic, they aren't trying to show reality but tell a story

Clearly you and I have very different life experiences.

I'm not removing her quirkiness but come on. Over half the shit she spouted was really stupid, and eye-rolling for any teenager I have talked with about it. It was just over the top.

Wasn't over the top when I watched it as an 18 year old. A lot of people I knew at the time really liked it at the time specifically for everything you don't like about it...

I figure any movie from today which really resonates with a teen audience is going to be cheesy and cliche as shit ten years from now.

Teen movie comes out with tons of forced dialogue and cool/quirky stuff, teenagers at the time eat it up without realising how forced it is, and the movies' vision of what's cool/quirky strongly influences what is genuinely considered cool/quirky for that age group.

Ten years later, that movie looks like a stupid fake version of what teenagers from ten years ago were doing.

I think "Thundercats are go" was a screwup by Cody that somehow survived, because the shooting script apparently does say that. I think she probably intended to give Juno the line "Thunderbirds are go".

Juno's snappy dialogue and dated references are, I think, intended to make her seem wise beyond her years so her naiveté hits harder as it's revealed.

I thought it was telling of the character's age that she'd sort of know the reference but fuck it up.

Same thing with the Bone Collector reference.

She acts like she thinks she's super-clever but really is not. I get that. It's just too damn much.

OP's remarks to criticism could make a comedy that rivals Juno in quirky comebacks.

I agree, Juno encourages young women to get pregannt.
