Cheap. In hong kong, there's tiny 70sq ft flats going for >600 pounds per month. And families of 3-5 living in 70sq feet. There's almost no fire saftey, bathrooms and kitchens are shared. The living conditions are inhumane at the very least.

For owning property, expect ~1500pounds per sq.feet. The avg wage here per mth is ~900pounds per mth. It takes easily over 35 years for an secondary teacher couple to pay off the flat. By the time you've paid off your flat, you're already almost retired and need to save up for retirement. Those with property can invest and accumalate wealth, whilst those without property will have to continually scrape by every month.

Thank god affordable public housing is a thing here, where 40% of the people live in government built flats, rented or sold at very affordable levels. Unfortunately, there is a massive shortage of public housing as the government has only started building new public housing recently, something which should have been done half a decade ago.

And our former chief executive and financial minister is under investigation for corruption involving housing developers. Hmmmmmm.

This is all because of extremely poor policies. Currently 60% of our lands are country parks which cannot be developed due to our out dated laws, resulting in the ludicrous situation that many are sleeping on the streets or in inhumane conditions, yet wildlife take up premium space much needed for humans. Our goverment's long term policies are always way overdue, and short term policies are bad ideas. Great.
