Am I disappointed? Yes. But am I surprised? Hell fucking no. Bethesda clearly took their sweet time with 4, i think it'll be a while before anyone does anything more with the series.

We never can tell, though. New Vegas was a surprise, too. Might just tap someone in-house like Arkane or Id to actually manage it, though. Wouldn't surprise me. Zenimax is in a very different position now from when Fallout 3 came out, keeping it in-house is probably a lot more viable now.

Depends on who you are comparing them to and in what way. The team on New Vegas is better at crafting a narrative by far.

There was a time I would have agreed, but Skyrim, and Fallout 4(some would argue Fallout 3 as well) are extraordinarily lack luster as far as the RPG aspects go. Especially when compared to their previous work. Skyrim is a watered down Oblivion with pretty textures and fetch/radiant quests in place of actual content.

My opinion of Bethesda is not based on the public reception of their games. It's based on whether I personally like them or not.

Edit: also, this really isn't about whether Bethesda is a 'good' developer or not. I said 'Ew' because Arkane and Id would be a terrible fit for a Fallout game and I said the second part because I believe Bethesda is only a slightly better fit.

Highly unlikely. Under their development, their Fallout game would be a linear 20-30 hour affair and 1-2 years later, we will be clamoring for another one.

Bethesda has shown, for New Vegas and ESO, that they require any spin-off title to have the longevity necessary to satisfy fans until the next major title. An Arkane or id developed Fallout wouldn't satisfy those requirements.

Okay, here's the thing. Obsidian isn't gonna straight up spill the beans about a possible Fallout game that they're working on for a random person on Reddit, Twitter i.e.

They HAVE to say that they aren't working on it even if they are. If they do anything but flat out deny it then they're basically confirming it and they'll never hear the end of it from Bethesda/Zenimax.

I'm not saying that Obsidian IS making a new Fallout game, I'm just saying that even if they were, they wouldn't be allowed to say anything until Bethesda gives them the okay.

EDIT: Also, when u/stormbringerGT was confronted with the question, he responded by saying he had to ask the PR guy what the right answer was. If they WEREN'T in fact working on another Fallout than why would he need to ask their PR guy permission on what to say? Simply all he had to say was "no, we aren't working on a new Fallout game." Idk.....him having to ask permission to answer a simple question just seems like they're hiding something.

The whole post, no offence to the OP, is ignorant. Are people forgetting about NDAs? We had to sign one to test the Creation Kit for crying out loud. OF COURSE Obsidian would have to be absolutely quiet about a spin-off and deny any involvement.

I mean the last Fallout 4 DLC hasn't even been released yet, why would they start plans for the next game? Even if Obsidian was working on something Fallout related, I kind of doubt one of the devs would reveal the project on Reddit possibly years ahead of release.

Am I the only one who thinks that InXile may be making the next Fallout? Brian Fargo, a founder of Interplay, is the CEO. Not to mention they recently opened a studio in New Orleans and trademarked Van Buren (the working name of the cancelled Fallout 3.)
