As the title suggest, DR4 is starting to look like a train wreck of a sequel. It started with Terence Rotolo not being contacted to voice Frank West again, but as time progressed it's gotten way worse. The timer is gone from missions, you don't escort survivors anymore (they just run away when you save them), your health automatically regenerates, you get the overpowered exo-suit from the start, and combo weapons are being given out like candy now.

Supposedly the dev team asked fans what they wanted and this is the result. I've yet to talk to a Dead Rising fan who was in favor of completely changing everything about Frank, making survivors super easy, or wanted an overabundance of OP weapons, or any of these changes (only one you can argue is the removal of the timer). Dead Rising 4 doesn't resemble what the franchise was 10 years ago.

It's going to fail so hard. Best say our goodbyes now. The timer was the only good thing about the series.

Might as well give you an unlocked cheat menu from the start and just let you stomp through the game without worry.

Capcom's mishandling of the DR series is the saddest shit. There's no point in even calling it Dead Rising anymore.

I am okay with all of these changes, to be frank (haha). I don't think the game is inherently better or worse for them. I love Dead Rising 1 and 2, but not necessarily because of the timer, the escorting of survivors or the health management. As a matter of fact, I consider all of those elements closer to niggling frustrating than features I personally appreciate.

Terence Roloto not returning is a shame, though. He was a real charmer as Frank.

So CoD health regeneration and no countdown timer, a series staple.

Looks like they are just going for mass appeal.

I liked what I've played of it so far.

No timer is great. It's probably what I loved most from Dead Rising 3. I hate being rushed.

I'm pretty sure you can play with a timer though, the option's there.

it's inherently worse to fans of dead rising. great for all the people that hate difficulty and need to be handheld through games.

Since I forgot what Frank sounded like and I hated everything they removed this makes me very happy.

Day 1.

But to be fair I haven't cared for Dead Rising since the 1st game.

I'm not going to lie, everything you just listed sounds like the answer to a problem I have had with the Dead Rising franchise. The time limit has always been more restrictive than fun, stockpiling items for health was a drag, and escorting survivors was a nightmare.

This series is Zombie Dynasty Warriors, and that is fine by me.

Sounds fine by me. I don't need that timer. Even if it's slow as shit, constantly having that thing tick down in the corner gives me anxiety anytime I'm not actively doing a mission. I just want to play the game at my own pace and do whatever dumb thing I want without having to have something in the back of my mind going "well, you really should be doing this, tick tock."

I can't say health regeneration would be at the top of the issues for me. We're not talking about a game series that required careful consideration of your health.

I can see taking issue with the lack of timers, at least.

Sorry you guys don't like fun. The series has only gotten better as they stripped away the annoying restrictions on the insane sandbox they've created. Why in the world would I want timers and escort missions in a game where I can wield ridiculous weapons against technically impressive hordes?

I agree that the series has gotten away from its roots, but sometimes one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Same, except that was the whole thing that made the series unique & for the most part made the game more interesting & fun for me.

I'm fine with there being a casual noob mode, but the strict timers should be the focus & 'normal' mode.

Next game will probably let you hold two items max and have offhand grenades.

It was well downhill already with Dead Rising 3 IMO, and 4 looks worse.

They replaced expert design with an extra dose of "LOL FUN MEME WEAPONS". That's not what makes Dead Rising what it was.

I'm in the same boat. Disabled the timer for dead rising 3 so I could enjoy the games and the missions without any stress. And escorting survivors was not fun for me either.

...I kind of like the sound of those changes. :(

But that's probably because I went into the games for different things, so it's unfortunate that bigger fans of the series are losing a lot of the things they like. I guess it's a good thing the original games are being re-released on consoles, so then the older game features can be replayed!

Also, is this game not part of the Play Anywhere thing? It doesn't mention it on the Xbox store page.

What? No timer?
Not even as an alternative game mode?
Dead Rising always had a cool atmosphere because of the timer and the way how the story works with it.

The game has pretty much lost its way from its very promising first entry.

But Capcom is just following the path of easy money, like with Street Fighter V, except this time it's more guaranteed when going full out in popular genre "open world zombie survival" with no challenge for the core user.

Dead Rising isn't as good as you remember it being. The gameplay is janky as shit and the timer is annoying. If any franchise needs to change to maintain mass market appeal it's this.

Nah, only thing I don't like is the regenerating health. Exo-suit from the start could also be a problem, but it really depends on how often you come across it. Pretty certain that some survivors in DR3 just ran away when you saved them too.

Just because you don't like the changes, doesn't make it an absolute mess either.

Wondering if there'll be a variable difficulty situation, like a hard core difficulty with timers and no resenting health.

Only way I can see this even remotely appealing to the 'purists' and the rest of the masses.

I'm looking to revisit DR1 with the remaster although I was disappointed by it back when it came out. I'd take the first game any day over Dead Rising 3's boring shift in tone without the charm and quirkiness. I'm afraid to say DR4 seems to continue that by also butchering Frank West in the process.
