When your Recycle Bin is corrupted, you can’t find the files which have been deleted. At the same time, you are unable to entirely empty the Recycle Bin to release some system space. By following several simple steps, you can fix the corrupted Recycle Bin.

It is known that each drive has a hidden and protected folder named $Recycle.bin which is used to store some deleted files and folders. To repair or reset the Recycle Bin, you first need to open an elevated Command Prompt window.

Click Start button and click All programs. And then navigate to the Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select Run as a administrator.

cmdrunasadmin

Type the following command and press Enter:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

cmdrecyclebin2

The command will reset the $Recycle.bin folder on the C drive. You may have to do this for each hard disk partition by replacing C with other drive letters.

Then type exit to close the Command Prompt window. When you complete the above steps, the Recycle Bin folder and deleted files and folders will be removed from your PC. After restarting your machine, the Windows will automatically create a new Recycle Bin for you.
