Wow, this is terrible. Poor /u/AnnaLemma is gonna have to clean up your mess when she gets back!

That being said, thanks for the kinds words :P

She's gonna murder me first. I mean, I broke the Capslock Parade for the "Community Discussion" part of the title! It's an atrocity!

There was an idea about a month ago about doing a weekly writing prompt to "resolve" some of the old cases that we never got updates for (like the house painted without the permission of the homeowner or the subpoenaed baby). Maybe it was just a joke that I took too seriously but it sounded like a fun idea. Basically people would nominate a "dead" issue (maybe one that was more than six months with no update) and then one or two would be chosen every week to have people write out an ending.

I thought that was an interesting idea as well, though I think once a week would probably not be sustainable. Once a month maybe. I don't know if I'd do it though because I don't know enough about how things work legally so my endings would mostly be "and then all the annoying people caught on fire" (but like on their shirtsleeve so they didn't die or anything and were only mildly inconvenienced because I'm not a psychopath. Probably).

You could also combine it with the shitty MS paint diagram idea. I would be willing to badly illustrate my personal theory, which is that the subpoenaed baby is secretly D. B. Cooper and the feds have finally caught on.

I second the once a month idea for the creative writing. Once a week ms paint sounds like a great idea too!

Damn that MS paint idea sounds fun

and i thought crying in a corner was standard MO for mods

I don't see the point of locking a thread. Just remove any new rulebreaking comments as they come in.

Threads like that can very, very easily get out of hand, and it has happened twice now. I believe both /u/RiverDawn and /u/oliviathecf made the right decision, even though others may not like that decision whatsoever.

Believe me, I get that tensions are still high, but locking a thread entirely wouldn't be necessary if people can learn to rein in their emotions and stop dogpiling the mods of the other LA subs.

We're not going to lock every single thread ever, mind you, but sometimes it is a necessary course of action to stem the flow of vitriol before it gets completely out of control.

I know that our users can be better than this.

What does "get out of hand" mean? Unless the sub is getting brigaded by a large sub, it seems like the flow of comments should be pretty low in a 3k sub.

[–]RiverDawnQuality Contributor[M] 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

You're absolutely right and the comment flow is usually pretty small here. We average between 15 and 30 comments on a post judging from the way the front page looks right now. The post that was locked had almost 80 in a couple hours. For a sub our size, that's a lot and fast.

People weren't dogpiling. It was two users going back and forth - either one could have stepped away.

I was fairly appalled that one of the mods here threatened to ban a user for make a general criticism against the LA mod team because they thought it was a "personal attack."

I'm sorry you feel that way.
