That was one hard fist pump and he seemed super ecstatic, more ecstatic than when he scores his own goals. So much for the Martial vs Ibra fight that the media brewed up eh?

If he wasn't informed by the club then it was understandable that he was a little upset but No.11 is more important to the club, I am kinda worried that he's gonna have a sub-par (although he was fairly ok last night) month or two because of the shit that's being dug up by his EX.

He's a young man. Can't expect him to carry us like he did last season. This is why it's a good thing to have Memphis compete with him, they both need it.

I wouldn't worry too much about that stuff -- if it didn't impact him a heap last season (a pretty safe assumption) then I don't think it will this season. The guy is immune to outside influence.

If he has a rough time, I would put it down to him adapting to Mou's style of wide forward play. Martial is good enough defensively, so that's not an issue, but he is not the best at making consistent runs in behind to receive through passes.

FWIW I thought he had a good game last night. He didn't dominate, but was fairly dangerous whenever he had the ball, and also picked up two (fairly cheap) assists.

I think he's going to still be class. Isn't it crazy, a 20 year old in his 2nd season in the premier league, people say he has a quiet game and he still gets 2 assists. Just goes to show you how good a player he is. A quiet game for him is 2 assists. Wow.

To be fair one was a misplaced shot which Rooney buried and other was just Ibra shooting from far out. They might be counted as assists but are they really?

Yeah he wasn't bad but he wasn't like his old self which is understandable considering his personal situation but I think he just needs a few games to get there.

Five years down the road, when we look back at his stats are we going to discount these two assists? I wonder how many assists Lampard or countless other players have that don't really "count." plain and simple he got two assists.

I am not arguing that those should be counted as assists or not, I just mean that Martial wasn't as good today as the stats suggest.
