Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

I don't exactly remember where the consensus placed this guy, Pilib De Brun (I want to say it was very low) but here is his thoughts on the Fonte situation.

"Seems Fonte could be on after all. Utd will allow JM to sign Fonte without selling due to his price being around 8m. Not JM's first choice"

I wonder who the first choice would be? It would be absolutely hilarious if it was Mustafi and United nicked him from Arsenals grasp. If a new CB comes in I would put money on Jones leaving over Rojo.

Honestly I don't think we need Fonte. Smalling and Baillic are good enough for being 1st choices while Jones, Rojo and Blind are good enough for being a backup.

I disagree because of Bailly's imminent departure for the African Cup of Nations. While I'm of course curious to see if Mourinho can turn Jones into a proper consistent player, nothing from Jones' last two years make me confident to have him as the team's only backup CB while Bailly is away.

It's not worth buying a new player simply because Baillic will be away for a few games.

We also have Rojo, Fosu-Mensah and even Carrick who can play a CB.

We don't need Fonte unless we are selling someone.

Agreed and tbh i'm already satisfied with our squad now, let's see how Bailly/Blind or Bailly/Smalling works first in a long run and decide whether to get another CB or not

I'm quite satisfied with what we have. Once Pogba is in we should see more penetration going forward.

Another thinking defender would be nice, but only if the right one is available.

The Fonte rumours have me quite excited. I think Rojo is the worst player in our squad and isnt good enough. I've also given up expecting Jones to be able to stay fit so, pretending they wont be around, Fonte would be a great addition. Other than that, I think we're ready.

same. Rojo to me seems a liability, so mediocre while Jones is worth the home grown quota. I've met Jones + Rojo outside OT whilst they're heading to the couch. Jones stopped whilst Rojo just walked past

Left back is an interesting one for me. Shaw is good but I'd like a backup. I personally don't feel lone blind or Rojo are good enough at left back and bojack is still young and inexperienced. Shaws injury last year really hurt our season. We have plenty of people who can play there but none are really great there

Why leave out Jones today and include Rojo? Young has been surprisingly absent too. More outgoings? Who will Pogba replace in the 18 we saw today?

He was still stupid in defence trying to dribble out of the box instead of just clearing it. I bet Jose hated that but it's a pretty easy thing to fix
