Anybody who thinks Fellaini is innately a bad player doesn't know about football. He may not deserve to start at the level United aspire to (Barca, Bayern, Madrid) but he would be a valuable member for any of those squads as he is one of the most unique players in world football. Plus the fact that he is a massive confidence player is what can make him look so lost with Moyes and great so far for Mourinho, if the manager shows faith in him and believes in him he's unbeatable in the midfield. I'd like to see Fellaini and Pogba in front of Carrick in certain match ups where their physicality can protect Carrick and let him do his thing.

Also the fact that if the club let him go he would go to Palace or West Ham or something and steal points every season.

I think that midfield trio would be terrific to protect a lead later in the game. Carrick to control the game, Pogba to break out on the counter, and the big fella to defend the long balls.

Agreed. Even on an average day he can do some damage physically and dull an opposition attack through brute force.

Interesting change of formation to what we saw today... I'm assuming with a 4-3-3 (1 holding mid and 2 attacking)? I have to add though, with the form Herrera has shown I feel like He has the edge over Carrick based more on energy moving forward rather than carricks more deliberate slower play!

Guy is an absolute asset defending set pieces and crosses.

It's still two games, need more matches to see how good he can be. Looking good so far.

I disagree about Herrera, he did well tonight but I can see Pogba displacing him and Mourinho to go with the Fellaini and Pogba combination. I feel Pogba will bring the ball forward more than Herrera did.

Fair enough. It would be madness not to give pogba the start when we paid so much for him, Mou has done it before and it wouldn't surprise me if he is on the bench for the first half against Southampton. If only so he can have a bit more time to adjust to the squad.

That's very possible, but he knows most fans want to see Pogba starting. I hope Pogba starts with Herrera replacing him from the bench instead.

If he continues playing like he did today, I can easily see Mou using him as a destroyer with Pogba playing along side him in the box-to-box role. Really happy to see the big tree playing well.

Fellaini was fantastic today along with a majority of United players. He brings physicality and nastiness to a midfield. ppl have discounted him in the past because his qualities have been minimized by asking him to be a player that he is not (all action box to box). He simply doesn't have the technical ability for that and will struggle if asked to perform that role. How he was used today was absolutely his best role. Win aerial duels and cut out balls in midfield then quickly rotate the ball to a more technical midfielder. There was a great balance in the Fella/Ander midfield pairing, and I loved watching both excel as I'm a big fan of Ander..but it's inevitable to me that Pogba will replace ander moving forward. Pogba is a cut above and will bring so much more class to our midfield. Get ready boys, I think were finally going to find some balance in midfield that we've badly lacked for a long time now

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Fellaini and Pogba in the midfield.

I was thinking this. Herrera was bright and crucial to our attack but seeing as Pogba is more attacking, it may actually be Herrera's place that is in danger, especially in games where Mourinho would want a more physical presence.

The image of Zlatan, Fellaini, and Pogba attacking the box is terrifying.

I'd be more comfortable with Herrera/Pogba but Fellaini did a fine job.

We need to see against stronger opposition though. His positioning is suspect but he surprised me. The thing is, there wa5d not much being created from midfield and that was pretty sad.

I'm of the opinion that pogba(in the 4-2-3-1) sitting deeper with another attacking minded player won't be as effective. We saw that in euros when matuidi was pushing forward pogba was left a little stranded at times. Personally he needs to be beside a destroyer like Fellaini or schniederlin so it frees him up to push forward.

Herrera/pogba would make for some interesting attack though!

Actually, my ideal midfield would be Schneiderlin, Herrera and Pogba. However with Rooney being undroppable that midfield is not viable.

On paper, a beautiful midfield. You're right about Rooney being undroppable. Club Captain and he got his name back on the scoresheet... fantastic to see that again by the way!

He's such a valuable player to the squad and definitely suits a lot of games e.g stoke, chelsea plus he's a bastard.... Who doesn't love a bastard

His a great squad player which can be used for very specific purpose against strong in the air teams. However, I get bit worried when Ibe was running at pace against him.
