Leave it to Redditors to tell an expert they are wrong.

Happens all the time in my field too.

If I happen to mention that companies evaluate the cost of making customers happy and will take measures to make them happy only if the benefits (not 100% monetary) outweigh the costs, I get downvoted to hell.

Some will downvote because obviously companies don't care about customers, they care only about money (like I said they care about customers). Others will downvote me because obviously companies know happy customers = more profit, so there's no need for a cost benefit analysis at all.

Is twoX always this toxic and aggressive? Seriously, people were trying to educate an honest-to-god expert on his field.. And to make matters worse, they weren't even arguing with anything he actually said. He agreed that the symptoms were often different, and then they just jumped on him, still acting like he didn't know that.

It went to shit after the mods agreed to become a default sub.

    Bad mistake.

Came here to say this. It was a great sub for women to talk about women's perspectives. Then it became a default. And ... All the mansplainers, twerpers, MRAs, ect ect ect invaded and it bcame an angry space for men to talk about what they hate about women

i'd put the odds at 2:1

    [–]toiracseSRDD Graveyard Curator [スコア非表示]  (4子コメント)

That's fairly confident considering the range of trolls that it could be. I like those odds. I also like the odds that they'll actually reveal their trollsona which I'm guessing are steeeep.

Common misconception - it went to shit look before it was a default.

What happened to TwoX is something that I have noticed has happened to a lot of subs - it fractured it's user base into smaller and more specific subreddits.

For instance, TwoX used to be a catch all subreddit for various women related issues, but many were light hearted. For example, make up and rage comics made up a good portion of TwoX.

Over time however the mods decided that all joke-y images should go to their own specific subreddit, in this case /r/trollxchromosomes. Then they decided that all make up posts should go to their own subreddit, /r/makeupaddiction. And so on this trend continued until all that remained were overly serious, sort of sad, political posts concerning gender relations. Making the sub a default was sort of the death blow into the subreddit.

I find this issue happens with a LOT of subreddit. For instance, in /r/magictcg if you actually want to discuss competitive decks and gameplay, /r/spikes is the place to go. If you want to discuss limited, a huge format in the game, /r/lrcast is actually the biggest and most active subreddit to do so. If you want to show up custom made cards, /r/custommagic is where you go. So on until there's actually not really left to talk about in the main magic subreddit, which is a total bummer because if you notice the other subreddits are a tiny fraction of the total users that /r/magictcg has.

The doctor wasn't being nice and sweet though, and that's insanely important in some subs (guess which ones, lolz).

IRL though, I'd much rather have a rude jerk save my life, than have a nice and sweet bloke sugarcoat things for me. Sure, it'd be nice to have the best of both worlds but if I could choose only one, I'd prefer competence over sweetness.

They should make a tv show about that! And maybe make the grumpy Doctor addicted to pills too!

And have him travel across time and space in like a phone booth or something

Maybe add two really 'nice & cute' doctors into the mix as well, both of who are relatively incompetent.

Edit: Duh, I meant Cameron & the Aussie chappie.

    the guy from the hood

He has a name. It's Mike Tomlin.

It's not an either or. It can be a both

Sure, it'd be nice to have the best of both worlds but if I could choose only one, I'd prefer competence over sweetness.

Three sentences, and you couldn't read it completely? Jeez. Maybe you belong in that drama-causing thread there in 2X.

"Expert" is just elite-speak for someone who paid a lot of money to get an education they could have gotten for free on WebMD. The only reason doctors even have to go to medical school is because it's required by state licensing boards whose true purpose is not to ensure quality of service or protect consumers but to artificially limit competition in the healthcare field.

Yes. They're also kinda racist. When I first got into reddit i was looking for a nice female community. They scared me off for a while.

Is there actually any good gender topics community online that isn't LGBT-oriented?

Did ya'all know heart attack symptoms in diabetics can be different (usually similar to the women's list) and the elderly (both genders) are more likely to have no symptoms compared to the general population.

    The plot thickens...

As a paramedic on the ambulance/ER for 8 years. Honestly atypical symptoms of heart attacks are more common than a "by the book" symptomatic heat attack.

I think these users aren't approaching it from the point of view of a healthcare professional though. I think they're talking at cross-purposes. Of course professionals will use their arsenal of knowledge to evaluate a patient and know the atypical symptoms. I think the users are coming from the point of view of the average (uneducated) person, who only knows the most commonly listed heart attack symptoms, which could lead to people not going for treatment when they should, because they don't know it's dangerous.

Yup! You got it. But you notice the so-called "doc" isn't even addressing this? He's literally clueless and worse he won't even listen to the 2x community.

Oh this thread is filled with butter! People left and right trying to explain how health care works to an actual doctor.

I got my doctorate from WebMD. Just call me Dr. Crabs because its always cancer.

The only thing I've learned from WebMD is that knee pain is probably cancer... and a minor headache, and a stubbed toe, and ingrown hair. Cancer.
