Where to stay in Manchester (self.reddevils)

Looking for some advice from residents if possible. Ill be there from Sept 30-Oct 3. Ill be going to the Stoke match on the 2nd and was wondering which part of town i should stay in/avoid. Im travelling with my gf and were in out mid-late 20's. A lot of the cheaper places are either in Didsbury or Fallowfield. Are these suburbs? They seem a little far from OT. Would prefer to stay in town and take some of the city culture in.

Should i just bite the bullet and get a place in the center? Are there any hip neighbourhoods you can recommend?

I stayed in Holiday Inn about 10 minutes from Old Trafford.

It was a good hotel, I recommend it if you don't have that much money to spend.

Hotel Football is class, right beside Old Trafford and a 5-a-side pitch/bar on the roof

Looks very cool! But a bit of a tourist trap, i feel. Wouldn't mind having a go at that pitch though! Cheers

Yea, don't go to Didsbury or Fallowfield, some parts of Didsbury are nice, but definitely not the cheaper parts. Salford Quays is close, not overly expensive if you find the right place and has a bit of a scene. The gf will also appreciate a lot of it. There's loads of short-let apartments and a Holiday Inn & Travelodge there which are at the lower end of hotel prices. Wouldn't recommend the Ibis though
