Arist Home is Almost Ready

Hi Everyone!

A lot has happened since our last update and we’re here to bring you some EXCITING news! Ready for the BIG news? Arist Home Edition is READY!!! That’s right! You didn’t read it wrong. Before we get to the meat of this update, we really want to apologize again for the delays and how we've handled communications with you all. We promise we will be keeping all channels of communications open and you will always know what we are doing to get Arist Home shipped to you.

Originally, when we were developing the Arist Home for manufacture, we came across some tricky technical problems, such as miniaturization of the modular components. At the time, it was estimated to take an additional 18 months to get it ready for production. That’s why we proposed to send out the Arist Professional first and pay for the shipping fee if our backers wanted to swap it for Home Edition when it is ready.

Shortly after we made that announcement, we had some breakthroughs when we were preparing the Arist Professional for manufacturing, which has now allowed for us make Arist Home happen now and not in the future.

To ensure Arist Home can be delivered in a timely manner, we are focusing our efforts in safety certification as this is the key area for more unforeseen delays. We will keep everyone updated on a monthly basis of all progress we make.

Before some of you start questioning our credibility and say “this is just another tactic to delay the shipment date", we would like to show you a video demonstrating how Arist Home brews a perfect cup of coffee.

Finally, our sleep-deprived hardware engineers can go home and get some sleep for now! Hopefully drinking too much coffee does not keep them awake for long.

As you might remember, we have already released Version 1.3 for iPhone users this March. All versions of the Arist app will be released this November. It’s taking a bit longer than expected but we are determined to create a delightful user experience for all users. We’re doing the best we can to speed up the progress and further details will be released in our coming updates.

  • iOS: Version 1.3 > Version 1.6
  • Android: Version 1.3
  • Windows: Version 1.0

These are the final specification of Arist Home:

Some changes might be made to fulfill special safety certification requirements (if any), but we are confident that Arist Home has met most of the mandatory requirements for validation of safety certification.

Before we move into mass production, we have to obtain safety certifications where Arist will undergo a series of tough testing to eliminate any safety concerns. We’re currently applying for the following safety certifications:

  • UL982
  • UL1082
  • FCC
  • FDA - approved
  • CE mark (EN60335, LVD etc.)
  • ROHS
  • CB

Arist Home will ready for mass production after we have obtained all the safety certifications we need. After that, we’ll be sending Arist Home to all our backers.

As a token of appreciation for your continuous support, we will deposit an amount of credits which is equivalent to the value of your Kickstarter pledge into your Arist account. For example, if you pledged US$299, you will get US$299 in Arist credits. These credits can be used for purchasing coffee beans, recipes and other accessories. In other words, Arist Home will be sent to our backers as a gift. We will release more details in an update in September.

We hope you will be satisfied with these arrangements.

Good choices. I am relieved about not having to worry about old milk inside the machine.
Now please focus on strong schedule discipline and let us get past this.

April 2017 LOL.... Looking forward to an update in June 2017, informing me of another massive breakthrough....

    3. Harry Armytage about 7 hours ago

Thanks for the update - I continue to have faith that you will deliver a great product.

Given the differences between the current home specs and the initial specs would you please consider adding the option of a pro machine without credits.

It would be great if you could supply a detailed comparison of the pro and home models to allow me to make an informed choice.

      Nice update, thanks

I am missing some information in the specification.

      Tamper:
      Minimum tamper pressure and resolution
      Boiler/Compressor:
Brewing temperature when water hitting coffee grounds Min,Max, resolution
Brewing pressure in puck, Max, Min, resolution, stability(Max fluctuations, spikes etc.) and accuracy.

      Some general considerations:
I see that brewing time is a bit long 5min for first cup. I guess this is not a big issue as you can initiate the brewing cycle remotely. I am however a bit concerned about forgetting my espresso and finding it cold on the brewer at a later time. An adjustable alarm on the phone would solve this issue("Your espresso will be finished in 1 min etc)

A bit disappointed regarding the capacity of the wast tank, my current fully automatic has at least room for 20 pucks and I sometimes feel I am a slave of this machine. In addition to the full sensor a counter visible on the app at all times would go a long way in mitigating some annoying situations when brewing 2 or more cups at a time. 3 minutes between brewing cycles is long enough not to delay it more by having to empty waste tank in-between. Having the counter you would know to empty waist tank before starting the brewing.

I am also a bit concerned about the shot volume, as a lower limit 25 is just about right, 20 would have been perfect for me as it could compensate for som less than perfectly roasted beans. The max shot volume of 75 is in my opinion not enough for a regular coffee (Norway) or a Americano. Please consider increasing this to the full extent of the heating chamber 110 at-least. Dumping a bit of colder water at the end for these kinds of coffee would be a welcomed possibility.

In the video the espresso extraction seamed a bit chaotic and uneven, my guess is that the settings was not a major consideration when getting this update out. Would love to see a video of the Arist brewing a nice single espresso with nice settings into a clear espresso cup.

Keep up the good work ladies and gentlemen.

Hello; thank you for the update.

The reason I invested into the project was for the milk container as well as the 2nd coffee bean container built in. I want to be able to switch between regular and decaf beans. This is a very significant change in functionality. You did not even mention this in your update. Will you provide us with a choice of the pro machine, assuming the pro machine still has this functionality that we originally backed?

      Thank you for this update.
To become men of honor, you must face problems, go thru them with your head up and never hurt anyone in the process that's what honorable men do, and this is how they become. Who said it was going to be easy? Keep up! Deliver, become!

    7. Chris E. about 14 hours ago

@Kantapat. You can go fuck yourself. Are you always here to complain? If you're gonna criticize something, make it productive and not just talk trash. 'Cause clearly, right now, the way you deliver comments is stupid. Oh. And that makes you stupid. Fucking troll.

    8. Victor about 14 hours ago

Hey Arist team, first of all thank you for the detailed update and addressing our concern of not getting timely updates.
Personally, this update makes me happy again and hopeful about the product. On the other hand, I do understand all the concerns other backers bring up in their reactions. Key word(s) is "managing expectations" and I hope you will be able to keep a focus on this important task.

Somehow I am still confident that the end result will be a great espresso machine with nice features. Keep up the good work and...the more updates, the better! take care

Glad to finally hear another update but little upset with the delayed timeline yet again. I was very much hoping that in this update you were going to ship us the professional version as promised last time. I believe i speak for most of us that we would prefer to have a product to use rather than the store credits. Also, it seems like the specifications of the Arist Home have changed quite a fair bit and I think for me the biggest problem would be if the milk steamer doesn't self clean it is going to be a big mess. I've been a avid supporter but this update was kind of disappointing for me.

Good effort gentlemen, and is exciting to see a product, but I am with others for this one. I would prefer the pro vision to this home product, and second if I read it correctly delivery isn't till earliest in January? That's almost the 18 mos you referenced, and I will assume the pro version is ready now or very shortly?

I think at this point, you should offer us an option of going with either the home or the PRO version. I would like the benefits of both listed. I am ok with the no milk container but that frother/steamer will be very messy to clean up and I can see it breaking alot more as it has to go up and down.

No milk storage, that is a problem.....And what about the Pro version and the promises made regarding that?
Milk storage and cleaning the frothing tube are actually my biggest issues. I do appreciate what you are doing with the credits, and I know this was a huge endeavor. Hopefully the storage issue will be addressed before the unit ships.

      I agree with Malte.
The lack of milk storage is a big deal.

    17. Jan Svarrer Sølvsten about 17 hours ago

Nice update at last :) Thanks

      Just 2 comments:

      1) You could consider the option that Malte suggests
      2) Will all backers receive their Arist e.o. this year?

    18. Ross Jones about 18 hours ago

I'm with Malte. I appreciate the hurdles, but we backed a certain product and what looks like will be delivered is a very much cut down version of that.
I'd like to see what the professional spec is, and have the option to have that one, if it comes with the spec we were told.

    19. Ronald about 18 hours ago

First of all: thanks for the update, the video and the apology!

I've noticed a couple of major difference between the new and the original specifications. Maybe it's simply not clearly indicated within the new specs but it would be nice if you could clarify this and preferably put the original and new specs next to each other. It might not always be 'good news' but at least we will know what to expect.

      Major differences I've noticed:

      - Single bean container versus dual
      - No refrigerated milk container
      - Static tamping force versus 0 lb to 40 lb
      - Pressure of max 10 bar versus 15 bar

      Some additional questions/concerns:

      - is grind size and coffee quantity still configurable
      - what happened to the sugar/chocolate dispenser(s)
      - will it really take 3 minutes between each cup of coffee

Can you please clarify these items.

    20. Malte Sussdorff about 18 hours ago

Here are the current very obvious differences between the original plan and the Arist Home. I would like to get the professional version and no credits if it meets the original specs better.

      - Bean choice options: 2 compartments vs. 1 compartment of 250g size
      - Tamper pressure went down from 40lb to 15kg
      - 1L Water, 1L Milk turned into 2L Water
      - Drip Tray down to 300ml from 1L
      - No Water Filter

Without the 2 bean options and the milk tank the Arist would be a useless design object in our kitchen.

    21. Warren Guerin about 18 hours ago

I'm actually REALLY happy about the frother nozzle rather than a milk container. I always forget milk in my current machine and end up having to clean lumpy, smelly milk! :(

P.C. Spoor about 18 hours ago

Damn it, dudes. The milk container..: Not shown in the video, not specified in the 'final' specifications either..

This would make remote tasking pretty much useless, right?

    23. Markus Strässle about 18 hours ago

      @Jordan Blackburn:
It was mentioned before that the milk container will be removed for the "Home" version. But as far as I understood, it should still be available in the "pro" version. What I don't know now is, whether there will be a pro version or not. But you're right, the machine is not the same w/o the milk storage.

@Ed: "Also does the froth wand cleans itself when retracts back inside the machine?"
I thought exactly the same. If not, it's at least clear why they added this ugly "nozzle protector".

    24. Sharon Lang Borovay about 18 hours ago

A bit disappointed that you are stating that it has a frother and not a steamer. The difference between frothed milk and steamed milk is what makes a coffee drink taste professional.

Hey guys, what about the option to receive the Arist Professional instead of the Home version. Could backers choose? Or do you withdraw the offer?

P.C. Spoor about 18 hours ago

Thnx a lot guys. Not just for the promised compensation but mainly for communicating. Saying what's up. Knowing something about what's going on behind the scenes is indeed what's been missing. I'm aware that a startup is difficult and comes with unforseen challenges. I even risk losing my pledge. The thing thats really important for me as a backer is being able to be part of the proces/development/journey. Good and bad times! Silence in this matter is killing. I'd like to say that for me lost faith can be restored sand that a message like this works very well.

I appreciate your efforts and hard work.

      Apologies accepted.

    27. Ed about 18 hours ago

I'm ok with waiting till next April, birthday present for my wife. :-). The video of the Arist is very pretty cool.. Hopefully to see more of it in the upcoming months.

Question... Will the Nozzle protector be retractable? If not, your logo being in that location is kind of meaningless since no one can really see it.

Also does the froth wand cleans itself when retracts back inside the machine?

Either way, glad to see progress.. Keep up the good work!

      Hi Guys,
Thanks for the update. That's some really good news, and I'm quite satisfied with the compensation you've come up with. Pity that we will have to wait for still quite some time, but if you all keep up the good work, we'll wait it out!

    30. Jordan Blackburn about 18 hours ago

I see by the demonstration video that the machine no longer contains a milk storage feature. So you thought no one would notice? That was one of the biggest selling points for the machine. The ability to make coffee before getting out of bed is now redundant. I mean you didn't even mention that you removed it in your update. If this is true and you have indeed removed this feature you should honor full refunds to your backers for lying/ failing to deliver.

    31. Maxim Smirnov about 18 hours ago

Hope that it will come true at last! And will be great B-Day present for me next spring!
