This is super confusing. Are you asking if you will get in any trouble for asking out a teacher? I can't see anyone in law enforcement taking this seriously.

I'm really asking how this will affect me in the next school year. And could I get in trouble?

Not legally. I have no idea how the school will respond, but they'll probably chalk it up to a dumb 14 year old being dumb.

Yeah except schools are not exactly known for being level headed. 😃

Expulsion from the district for sexual harassment and fire the teacher for good measure.

Also quick question, why would you do this if it wasn't senior year?

Because 14 year olds don't have the best track record for logical thinking

Considering OP's username and age, I'm guessing it's an enormous amount of wishful thinking.

OP might want to consider the position he put his teacher in before trying these kind of "jokes" in the future. He didn't do anything illegal, but it complicates things for an innocent teacher, and creates an awkward, stressful situation.

Plus, it's creepy. (Due to disparity in age and authority.)

I know you're just a kid, OP, and you're figuring yourself out... but don't be a creeper in the future, okay? Not cool.

If you are asking out a hot teacher, it will be beneficial to your reputation. Besides that, I doubt anything will come of it.

Hmmmm, I dunno about that. Big difference between hitting on Miss Lewis, the hot 24-year old Art teacher and Mr. Blevins, the grizzled 54-year old shop teacher with 8 1/2 fingers.

7 whole fingers and 3 half ones just so we are clear.

It's not how many fingers you have; it's how you use them.

That's a lot of 1/2 fingers...

[–]Senator_Chickpea 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

It was one hell of a table saw.

It always is.

Thing is though, I just got a call saying I was gonna get a representative and they were gonna email me.

Who called you? What sort of representative?

My bet would be that the teacher went immediately to her Union Rep to nip this in the bud before she possibly gets accused of having a relationship with a student. And that this "representative" is the one that made the call. This could potentially cost the teacher her career if it gets misconstrued.

Meh. Not an uncommon occurrence. I doubt anything will come of it after the usual paperwork and conversations.

I have no idea who called me but it was an 18 second voicemail, and after I listened to it, I immediately deleted the app.

Hard to say anything without any information. If your school wants to pursue discipline you'll hear from them. I have no idea what else you're talking about.

I'm not sure how any of these things work specifically, but could it be that you got a wrong number or something, maybe someone had that number before you? Did they mention your name or anything else that could identify you personally?

Yep, they said my first name so I know it wasn't an accidental call. And my first name isn't common so I definitely know it was me.

Could it have been from the service you were using? More of a "hey we're gonna have a representative call you to talk to you more about this service!" kinda thing?

I doubt it. The service doesn't even have my any of my information.

You won't get into trouble for asking out a teacher. The law only cares about the actions of the teacher, not the minor. The logic is that the minor is not mature enough to fully understand the situation, therefore they cannot consent.

You probably caused her a lot of trouble since she has to make sure and cover her ass. If there is even a whiff of inappropriate behavior of a teacher and a student, it gets serious.

The teacher may be trying to be proactive, to ensure that there's no HINT that she encouraged this, or that there was any relationship before this. OP has put the teacher in a bit of a bind.

I'm guessing you're right, and that she's trying to get ahead of any rumours of impropriety.

[–]Machete_dont_tweet 7ポイント8ポイント  (0子コメント)

Teacher here. Your teacher very likely reported this to her superiors, because that's what we are supposed to do if a student attempts to solicit an inappropriate relationship. If you are going to "get a representative" related to this incident, your parents will probably know about it before you do because you are a minor. You probably shouldn't expect too much more than a conference with a counselor and/or school administrator and your parents, if that. But again, if your parents haven't been contacted, I wouldn't worry about it. You're 14 and made a bad decision. It probably won't be the last. Consider this an opportunity to learn.

[–]apples_apples_apples 7ポイント8ポイント  (2子コメント)

Take a few deep breaths and relax. I don't think this is remotely as big of a deal as you think. Most likely, she reported this to her union rep just to be safe so no one could accuse her of being inappropriate with you, and the representative just has to follow up with you so they can finish the paper work. I'm like 95% sure if you just tell them it was a joke and you regret it now, everyone will just roll their eyes and move on. You certainly haven't done anything illegal.

I'm sorry if anyone here is giving you a hard time. You're just a kid, and kids make mistakes. You made an inappropriate joke. It's not a huge deal. I think the worst that will happen is maybe a stern talking to by the principal or something.

You're right on everything except the part on "union reps". NC teachers are not allowed unions.

How can you not be allowed a union?

So, you might kinda end up hurting the teacher a bit. There might be some kind of investigation for her.

Easier said than done, but you should put this out of your mind until/if you hear something from the school. As for the teacher, I really doubt this is enough to get her in any trouble. There's probably not much you can do, though I would definitely try to avoid contact with her for a while.

I don't think you need to tell your mother unless you get some indication that the school's going to contact her about it, in which case she might prefer to hear it from you first.

They're taking this seriously because they're investigating her, not you. Just talk to the representative and tell the truth, which is that it was a dumb joke and that at no point did anything happen between the two of you. Maybe you'll get in trouble at school or something, but you certainly didn't do anything illegal: the concern is about her behavior, not yours. It's okay.

[–]Fytt 1

IANAL… Well, you won't get in legal trouble as long as you didn't harass the teacher but it's possible you may get in trouble at school. Sorry about to rejection btw

Don't be TOO sorry about his rejection. If his teacher had accepted his advances, then we would be talking about all kinds of illegal activity and its implications. (For teacher, more so than OP.)

[–]Fytt 2

Yeah, op stop doing stupid shit you can get your teachers in trouble

You didn't break any laws. It's possible you'll get in trouble at school.

Asked out a teacher...

Long story short, at the end of the year we were doing yearbook signing. I wanted to do something crazy reckless without really getting in trouble for it. Dumb, I know. So I wrote my phone number down in a teacher's yearbook asking her to dinner and a movie.

I put a text free phone number down and used a 10minutemail to sign in. Thing is though, I just got a call saying I was gonna get a representative and they were gonna email me. How much trouble will/could I get in for this? Any tips or advice?

And please don't call me stupid. I already have that down pact. I'm 14 years old if any of that helps. I haven't told my mom yet so I don't really know what's gonna happen. Plus, she's not the most understanding person...

It's her yearbook and not someone else's? She'll roll her eyes and forget all about it. She might look at you funny next year or over the summer if you bump into her in the grocery store or something. The voicemail is unrelated, I bet.
