The Sikh religion came to be as an answer both towards Hinduism and Islam. There are several rules that directly conflict with some barbaric Islamic traditions however. For example Sikhs are not allowed to eat meat that has been attained through any kind of torture such as Halal meat. They are only allowed to eat Jhatka meat which is meat extracted from animals that have been instantly killed and did not suffer before their slaughter. No it wasn't . Its early history is about resisting the Mughal Empire who were Muslim. But the religion itself meant to bring Hindus and Muslims together. Muslim Sufi teachings and Hindu Bhakti teachings were brought together by the gurus. The foundation of the Golden Temple was laid by a Muslim saint, Mian Mir. The Guru Granth Sahib praises Muslim saints , but challenges orthodoxy who became too literalist and dogmantic.

That is dapper as fuck. I love the Sikh community. I used to live in a big town where 4 Sikhs would walk around our neighbourhood twice a day, and occasionally you'd see them once at night. We had a rather annoying crime rate, and one day the stores directly across from my house had their windows smashed in and like 4-5 teenagers ransacked them before scrambling.

K-9 unit turns up, and they begin tracking the teens. They find a pack of 3 teenagers that sprinted off towards the area the Sikhs normally hang out just lying there against a tree with their stolen goods looking like they'd had the everloving shit kicked out of them.

Crime went down. I started walking at nights again.

As an Indian-American, you should know your history better. The population of Muslims in Pakistan is 178 million and in India it is 172 million. Many states with the highest percentage of Muslims were not even ruled by the Mughals... Lakshadweep (the highest Muslim by percent), Assam, Kerala.... also Jammu & Kashmir had a Hindu king.

An equal number stayed back in India including 3 out of 12 Indian presidents who were Muslim and decided to stay in India. The current VP of India is a Muslim. Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid is a Muslim. India has had Muslims serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (btw Pakistan has had a Hindu Chief Justice as well ..his name is Rana Bhagwandas) .... Some of the top business leaders like Azim Premji and cultural icons like Shah Rukh Khan.... Indian Muslims have even more power on the world stage than Pakistani Muslims.. and they aren't any less Muslim because of their nationality.

Also I never said that those were the only provinces not ruled by the Mughals. I stated some of the provinces with the highest percentage of Muslims were never under their rule. There are plenty of other provinces that weren't directly ruled under the Mughals including Tamil Nadu , Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunchal Pradesh....
