I don't think Herrera is good enough for United, I like the guy as a person but his passing is so inconsistent.

Maybe I'm still in denial, but I still think he needs a run of matches to show his worth.

That being said, we have better players and I don't see how he'll ever get to start three matches in a row, let alone two.

I don't think this is unpopular (?) - at least as far as the first XI goes.

We all love Ander's attitude, but he absolutely is technically limited (at least by 'top top' standards). A bit-part role as a squad player would be my prediction, and if he's happy with that, fantastic for us.

I'll also never not love seeing that cheeky smile careering around the pitch.

Rooney will have a blistering season.

I had a nice giggle at that.

Micki may underperform.

Most likely he's a massive confidence player so he will have to adapt mentally to the club and rotation.

[–]BurfobinoDaily Sexy Blind 8

Blind will work wonders for us, again.

Blind seems to get a lot of stick.

I'm an old geezer and I've watched a lot of footballers over the years - Blind's footballing brain is perhaps the best I've ever seen.

That said, it's also impossible to overlook his deficiencies - speed and strength.

I love watching him play, despite a constant worry he's about to be skinned by some technically inept but pacey player.

So it goes.

Schneiderlin is a Champion's League quality player - notwithstanding his underwhelming 2015-16 season.

I really hope he gets his Soton form back, because he would be the perfect fit next to Pogba with Carrick getting old

You mean at Soton where he played box to box with Wanyama sitting in front of the back 4?

I could honestly see Lingard keeping Mhki on the bench for the majority of the season

I think that is true in Premier League but in Europa will see Mkhi play every game.

Memphis will continue his awful form then be sold next summer

City will win the title 🙊

Surely it'll be us or them, hopefully us but I think one team will just nick it from the other.

Naw. I think pep will struggle for the first season. He has brought in a lot of new talent, yes, but it will take time for him to learn the English game.

I don't think he'll struggle but I think he'll occasionally drop points to weaker sides through underestimating them which could add up come the end of the season

A defensive pairing of Smalling + Bailly is silly.

I predict they will create so many fouls that it might decide the outcome of our season.

We need a Ferdinand who can read the game, and have one of the tanks do his dirty work.

Blind reads the game well. Would you advocate Blind over Smalling? Bailly is more of a destroyer than Smalling.

I think I would actually.

Smalling created more fouls last season than Ferdinand did in his whole career.

I hate to say it but most of Smallings fouls come from him losing his man. Have you seen him at corners, constantly tugging at a runners shirt.

Yes, you're right. Bailly is guilty of that as well though.

Rio didn't even need to make contact much. We need that.

Blind is the closest in that regard, but he doesn't really have the commanding presence or the agility that Rio had.

I get a bit annoyed every time I see DDG raging at the defense for stupid errors. And that happens way too often.

I think Bailly is more of a Vidic with much better distribution. I think we'll be waiting some time before we get a player as good as Rio again. If Stones is worth 47 million can you imagine what Rio would be worth today!

Yes, we have the Vidic. Actually we have two of them.

I would never start a match with two Vidics.

Rio in his prime would easily be a >£50m in today's market.

Lingard is a better winger than Martial because he knows how to make runs.

This thread is for unpopular opinions, not bad jokes!

He said better winger, not better player.

Well then in that case Lingard is an absolutely abysmal winger. He comes inside far too often, spends far too much time in central areas and is effectively incapable of beating the fullback around the outside or getting to the byline and whipping in a cross, which is the primary function of an actual winger.

[–]black_squireMartial 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

That's not the way either Mourinho or LVG utilizes wingers. The Fullbacks do that. Wingers drift in or make runs in behind for the full backs to supply.

Lingard is good a running behind defenders, but that's just a small part of being a winger. The goals and chances Martial creates from the wing vastly outweigh what Lingard is capable of, and Lingard also benefited immensely last year from the focus defenses put on Martial. I'm a big fan of Lingard, but to say that he's a better winger than Martial is just silly talk.

Runs are one thing, Martial can dribble past players way better and create chances and score goals, Martial is actually much better as a winger rather than a solo striker, look at the stats last season, his numbers as a striker were terrible, 20 matches 4 goals and 2 assists as a central striker, 25 matches 11 goals and 6 assists as a winger.

I think Pogba will take a while to get up and running. Not on the scale of Memphis Depay but factors like:

  • Weight of expectation
  • Switching leagues
  • Forging chemistry with a new team

It's going to be hard to adjust but I have no doubt he'll get there. Just not immediately.

Hate to say it, but Smalling isn't as good as people rate him. His shirt pulling in the box is getting more noticed and i clench my butt whenever he goes 30 yards forwards only to either attempt a long pass and fail or back pass. I hope he proves me wrong.

Tony V will lead the team in assists at the end of the year.

Chris Smalling isn't as good as we all think he is and likely won't be our first choice centre back in a year or two. LVG's ultra conservative play covered up a lot of his shortcomings.

Often thought about this myself, he usually plays well for England but not nearly as good as what I have seen at United. I guess we'll see for sure this year, hope I'm proved wrong!

Blasphemy, how dare you! Big Mike is perfect.

He was really good at man marking and shutting the striker out of the game but now that we're playing zonal I have the same fear as you

Rooney needs to be sold ASAP. At this point, he's not good enough to start for us.

I think that if we are to challenge for the title this season, Rooney cannot be an automatic starter. If he hits his form, then absolutely but if he continues his shit performances, I really hope Mou will have the balls to drop him.

That way we could also utilise our midfield players (read: Pogba) better because we could play a different formation.

[–]CveinMemphis & Martial 1

Martial will need 10 games atleast to get up to par with last year.

Martial will underwhelm By that I mean not be as good as he was in his first season

Smalling looked good last season because of Van Gaal tactics and could struggle this year.

We will finish top 4 but I think the team will take some time to gel and we won't finish top 2.

If Arsenal make an impact signing or 2 before the window closes I think they'll win.

This is unpopular opinion thread not bold prediction thread

Ibra won't score as many goals as some people on here expect him to. Some people look at his scoring record from the past and think he'll replicate it. Not only is he getting older, he's playing in a much more difficult league, so he definitely won't be able to score as many goals for us this season. Not to say he won't be a very influential figure - I believe he will (in other ways such as sheer physical presence or link-up play). Obviously hope to be proven wrong though.

On a side-note, I absolutely loathe the word "destroyer" that many people use to describe defensive midfielders. It's popular, so I guess it's just me, but I can't take opinions seriously when people describe players as 'that midfield destroyer'. It sounds like a LEGO Star Wars battle ship, not a description of a footballer.

Zlatan is getting older but he is not some type of player who will lose it that quick because he is a great athlete, look at his body, he is 34 yet he has some insane acrobatic moves, he is the type of player that works out all the time and stays in perfect shape, also does karate and other stuff, even Mourinho said it. As of the Premier League is different, yes it is, but for someone like Zlatan is perfect who doesn't shy away from physicality. Aguero scored fewer goals in La Liga than he did in the Premier League, Torres as well, you have players who are better fits for the Premier League than other leagues. Is he gonna repeat the numbers he had at PSG? Almost impossible, but he can score 25+ goals a season, we've been desperate for someone like that recently.

He doesn't drink or party. He is completely dedicated to fitness and staying in shape, he knows at this age what it takes to keep ticking over. I have no worries about him being able to cope with the premier league, despite his age. Some players are done at his age, some are fine, it really depends on how well they've taken care of themselves and some of it is genetics. I think he'll find the net often enough, obviously not as much as PSG given the strength of PL defenses, but he'll do well. The man is like a goal seeking missile, his every move and thought is about ball in net.

I don't think anyone expects him to score 50 goals in England.

I'll be happy if he scores more than 15.

I hate almost all of United's Adidas kits. Especially the black one last year that everyone was raving about

[–]axl_the_plagueChicharito 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

We're going to win the league this season. Too many people think we're going to be 2nd to another team but those teams also have first year managers. If anything it'll be harder to win the league in the following years. We're going to do it.

If us winning the league is an unpopular opinion, then I don't want anything to do with this place.

[–]Shaggydog__One Darren Fletcher. 0

Mata is behind Rooney, Mkhi, and Jesse for the no.10 position.

Memphis Depay needs to be sold whilst we can still get some good money for him. Come next season he will be worth close to nothing if he carries on with his awful performances.

He was even left out the community shield match and he played in every pre season game(And was shite), so it's clear even Mourinho doesn't rate him that much.

People need to let this one go, he just isn't good enough for this level.

Don't know if this is the right place to post it but I don't necessarily want us to win the league this season. I just want us to be taken seriously again and move on from the bit of a laughing stock we have been for the past three years. However, eventually, I want to say a big fuck you to all those who ridiculed us in those years.
