Silly season has returned for the 4th summer on /r/reddevils!

Most of you know the drill.

For those who don't...From today until the window closes, a transfer round-up & discussion thread will be made every day. In these threads, ANYTHING can be talked about. Any player, in or out, any transfer fee, anything!

Now, with these threads starting, this means that rumours submitted as separate posts will be removed unless they are from reliable sources!

What does everyone think of James if we go for 4-2-3-1 (it looks like it???)

That show and some of it's journalists are Florentino's mouthpieces, so in issues as these it could be considered reliable, specially after the supercup were even without 5 starters, Zidane only brought James as the third sub, when he had nothing else and needed to win.

Should we? I mean, I thought we were playing 4-3-3 and he has no role there (struggled last season with madrid as a right or left midfielder), but reports and our first game are hinting at 4-2-3-1. I think he is amazing when used as a #10, as shown when Madrid used him there, or in any game with Colombia, he is a goal scorer, and a great passer and I think Mourinho could do wonders with him. Also they're selling, so for something like 60m, and taking him instead of letting him strengthen our rivals, I think we should do it. I know we have a bunch of midfielders, but I reckon I'd rather get him and move some of our guys not high on Mou's list.

No reports of us being interested in him yet (Hope Mou likes him, and Mendez probably wouldn't mind bringing one of his here so Raiola doesn't get all the cake), but if we were, I wonder if they'd do Mata + Cash for James, him being spanish and coming from their youth team and all.

well yeah i'd take it. Surely means the end of Juan Mata though but for James Rodriguez its worth it.

With Valencia coming in for Darmian when we can afford to.

That lineup, with Kante instead of Carrick, was my utopic dream lineup before this transfer season started

With a better RB and maybe some more experience at CB, that should, on paper, be a CL contending team. I don't think it'll happen at all, but it's fun to imagine i guess.

I also have some hopes for Pereira

I considered our market closed after Pogba, at least for big names.

But I mean if Madrid start offering him around and declare him not needed, which is what it seems they're leaking, I don't see why we couldn't try to work a Mata (from their youth team) + cash for James.

I know I'd definitely rather that than someone like Chelsea or Arsenal getting him.

I think he's definitely worth 60m in this market but whether we can justify spending that much on an already stacked position, I dunno. Unless someone like Mata moves, I just don't see it

I think we've bought enough starters, maybe I'm wrong but I feel a little uneasy buying 5+ new starters, we've already got Pogba, Miki, Zlatan and Bailly, I dunno maybe one more?

I'd like to see us sign some young talents like what City have done, not because we should follow them just as an example of the type of talents we should be aiming for.

Bailly is 22, Pogba 23.

But I agree, youth talent needs a bit of a focus. But i think that can wait till next season. There'll probably be a significant clear out next summer, including the likes of Mata, Young, Rojo, Fellaini and maybe Memphis (my guesses). Then it'll be time to introduce some young talent and give ourself a really strong, young core of players, spearheaded by Pogba (23) Shaw (21), Rashford (19), Bailly (22) & Martial (20)

I'm still finding it hard to believe we've gotten Ibra, Mkhitaryan, AND Pogba in the past what? Two months. Not to mention Bailly so far looks like a fantastic destroyer (i.e. David Luiz type). Boy am I going to miss those 0-0 draws.

With No CL. Thats what gets me the most. We pulled in huge names with no CL.
