You should try reading some of the unit cards, apparently the Churchill was a rare prototype that only entered service near the end of the war.

Also, I remember in the last mission you had to destroy the Maus to prevent its "Advanced German TechnologyTM" from falling into Soviet hands... completely ignoring the fact that the Soviets did capture the Maus in real life, brought it to Kubinka, and then promptly concluded that it was absolutely fucking useless.

They'd mount a proper engine on it, perfecting the design to a level that would make the nazi scientists envious mount a rocket booster on it and upgrade the 128mm to a BL-10 152mm and the coaxial to an S-60 57mm autocannon.

Or they'd laugh at how unreasonably shortsighted the monstrosity was and chuck it into a museum. xaxaxa cyka )))

The thing is, pretty much every country had batshit insane concepts, it's just that the Nazis were the only ones stupid enough to put them into production.

That's pretty sick, though. At least they weren't in the middle of a war when plotting this particular monstrosity. Its like Red October on steroids.

I mean, using the transiberian railway to supply an army is TOTALLY doable right? It worked just so well for Admiral Kolchak! ...wait a second.

The Russian Empire did alright on the land front of the Russo-Japanese War...if only because almost all of the fighting was defensive for them.

Of course, the Soviet response to a Japanese advance would have been to demolish the railway as they retreated, while laughing at Japanese attempts to rebuild it.

Try to organise a sea invasion from 8000 miles away fighting against a nation with a huge army, navy, air force and far larger industrial base and population than your own country.

This wouldnt even be called an invasion but rather a "POW camp cruise trip" or a "logistics officers mass suicide"

German Field Marshall von Manstein jumps on the opportunity to counterattack and launches two armored forces on it:

Your guy is talking about what historically actually happened at Third Kharkov so the criticism isn't fully valid. Your guy def goes overboard though with equating a tactical counterattack with strategic victory. Newsflash to him though: it wasn't enough. The Red Army had too many brave men, good weapons, decent generals, and Western help to lose strategically by 1943 barring a complete return to being ordered about by idiots like Mekhlis.

To add to that. Having your front line broken is a great time to counter attack. No army will have 100% of its forces on the front lines for that very reason. If the enemy breaks though you want a force ready to roll to fill in that hole and push them back.

Hell the battle of the bulge was a bunch of counter attacks. Germans broke American lines, Americans counter attacked breaking German lines, then the Germans counter attacked again but failed to break the American lines

Japan lands troops in California without a declaration of war.

I guess the fact that Hawaii still exists means the Japanese have invisible troop Transports, and supply ships to manage the landing, and the experience to achieve sneaking past the entire US Pacific fleets, and radar stations. Fucking hell that sounds like Japan is hacking.

I don't want to even ask how bad it was, do I?

Well, apparentlt when they actually bothered to go test it, they found something like a single Mark 14 could blow a massive gash in the side of the ship. Let alone a bunch of Type-93s, which the Americans could approximate the explosive force of with a smaller warhead due to the greater explosive power of American torpex.

[–]EvanHarperthe Russian Winter begins on 22 June 1

In fairness, the defects weren't all that dramatic; the basic problem was that it is not realistically possible to provide any reasonable size ship with a really adequate torpedo defence, period. Even if it had been possible amidships, which it really wasn't, the bow and especially the stern were simply impossible to protect. The warhead will always get through.

Now the Pugliese system, on the other hand...

The thing is, the TDS on an Iowa were extra bad. It's not like the USN couldn't make good TDS's--the Colorados can attest to that.

I had an aneurysm while reading this. Apparently a huge invasion goes completely unnoticed in the open sea during a time of planes, radar, and phones.

Japan invading America is the least possible thing listed. Possibly ever

So lets pretend the Japanese army could get that many men to the west coast and the Navy could keep them supplied. The United States is a FUCKING FORTRESS.

Land in central or north California and 100 miles inland you have the Rocky mountains, maintaining supply lines and marching over them while under attack would be nearly impossible. You manage to cross them you're in the great planes perfect for Tanks and Aircraft strafing of which the US dominated.

Land in southern California you got rockys then the south western deserts that i doubt Japanese would do well in then the great planes and Texas.

Land in Washington or Oregon you deal with the thick forests of the Pacific northwest, Then the Rockys then the great planes

The East Coast isnt much better. Northeastern Forests, the Appalachian mountains not as big as rockeys but FULL of crazy mountain folk. And the South eastern swamps are just a nightmare

I mean, look at China for them trying to fight a massive land war. Now imagine that instead of a country on the tail end of close to a century of continuous political collapse, you have a superpower.

[–]LayinScunionStalin surfed a T-34 on human waves to Berlin 4

The East Coast...

Don't forget the intense amount of urban fighting.

NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and the Capitol. Then they'd have the pleasure of pushing into Chicago....

Sorry but I've been to all of those cities (sans Chicago) and I can tell you right now the Japanese would be dealing with so much militia they would be pleased with how easily they could die for the emperor.

Don't forget the massively long land border with an Allied nation to the north. And the East has plenty of rivers.

[–]dandan_noodlesHang Ten on that human wave, comrade!

I guess if you were going to invade America For Some Reason, Maine-ish would be the place to do it if the Appalachians provide few enough choke points for a south advancing army to stop up. Keep you from getting completely swallowed by the size of the theatre.

West Coast ain't the best coast... when contemplating a strategic invasion of the US. I think that's clear enough.

[–]dandan_noodlesHang Ten on that human wave, comrade!

Definitely. Would be fascinating to see staff studies on this; cross-appalachian railway capacity for evacuating NE industry, strategic passes, port capacities, US mobilization capacity at various stages in a campaign, places to bottleneck US production, etc.

[–]BrotherSurpliceCAPITALISM AND COMMUNISM UNITE TO PRODUCE AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT 2

Even the supposedly actual history campaign has British Cromwell tanks fighting in North Africa. Also the Churchill is apparently a super-heavy prototype because what is a Tortoise? Love the game though.

[–]MalaclypseTheEldarLeopard 2A7 was an effective WWII tank 1

To be fair all the super-heavy prototypes were actual tanks instead of TDs (well, except for the T95). And the Tortoise would just make Britain massively overpowered - a competent superheavy + a cheap, spammable, incredibly overpowered Firefly + god-tier air force = completely unbalanced.

Sounds like someone doesn't know about Imperial Japan's famous Ninja Divisions, which could run across the water and were invisible to anyone who tried to attack them.

The only reason you don't normally hear about them being in East Frisia or California is because of both Victor writing the history and that any eye-witnesses were murdered by shurikens thrown from the darkest of shadows.

[–]Daxim101Destroyed 50 unmanned trucks, where's my iron cross 2

Man, RUSE, I remember that. But as ridiculous as the scenarios are, I always felt they were just there to set you up for the scenario/give it an excuse to exist.

The campaign is, likewise, essentially an extended tutorial and the story is merely a vehicle with which to give an excuse for the player to end up fighting the Russians.

Also, a minor note because it annoys me otherwise: The final army you can choose is either American, German, French or British.

For the one where Japan sends and expeditionary force, if said force was literally one spec ops unit, you could probably fit a decent number in the two I-400 class submarines if you didn't load the Serians. You wouldn't be rescuing any Germans, but they were decent subs and you could probably at least touch European soil and then head home.

[–]SlavophilesAnonymousDresden is the holocaust 0

Weren't those subs incredibly noisy?

I'm not entirely sure. They were at least considered quiet enough to be able to sneak up on the Panama Canal to bomb it with the Serians.

It was a zepplin issue. The US built tons of blimps for the war but concluded that zepplins were way too dangerous. You can't build a blimp large enough to be an aircraft carrier.

Airship aircraft carriers and submarine aircraft carriers. Crimson Skies over bloody seas. Also mercenary air forces and patrol boats.

Mm. Bet you could do something like that with Fury on the Lakes.
