Donald Trump’s rise in the 2016 race is a wake-up call for reproductive rights advocates nationwide. Across the campaign trail, Trump has flaunted his dangerous agenda based on racism, misogyny and xenophobia.

Time and again, he has vowed to restrict access to reproductive health care and ban abortion in this country. He’s continually promised to discriminate against immigrants, Muslims, and communities of color. And he wants to take his outrageous policies straight to the White House.

Bottom line: A Trump presidency would be a disaster for women. Here’s where Trump stands on the issues most important to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and what’s at stake in November.

Trump Wants to “Defund” Planned Parenthood

Trump has claimed he’d be great for women while in the same breath pledging to block them from accessing care at Planned Parenthood, like birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and well-woman exams. What’s more, Trump said he’d rather shut down the government than allow women, men, and young people to access care at Planned Parenthood health centers.

Planned Parenthood health centers are irreplaceable, and they play an outsized role in rural communities, communities of color, and other regions facing health disparities. In fact, an estimated one in five women come to Planned Parenthood in their lifetime. They come to Planned Parenthood for health care –– not to make a political point.

As president, Trump would turn his back on all of these patients and ignore public opinion, which consistently shows strong support for Planned Parenthood.

Trump Wants to Ban Abortion

Update March 30, 2016:

Donald Trump Calls for Abortion to be Illegal and Punishment for Women Who Have One

Trump has made his stance on abortion very clear: He wants to ban safe and legal abortion, with limited exceptions.

Trump has even said he would appoint “pro-life” judges to the Supreme Court, a move that could wreak further havoc on access to safe and legal abortion. In case you weren’t already scared at the prospect of a Trump presidency, consider this: The Supreme Court currently includes three justices who are hostile to abortion access, and Republican senators are pledging to obstruct the process of nominating a new Supreme Court justice to replace Antonin Scalia (who also was hostile to abortion access).

The next president could get the opportunity to appoint Supreme Court justices. If Trump were to become president and appointed a Supreme Court justice who shares his backward views, the outcome in abortion access cases like Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt could be disastrous.

“Donaldcare”: Trump’s Senseless Replacement for the ACA

Trump not only wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), but promises to end it with “the stroke of a pen” on his first day in office if he becomes president. He would replace it with a health care plan that eliminates all of the protections and advancements we’ve made over the past few decades –– and would make things decidedly worse for women.

Under Trump’s plan, women would lose access to birth control, could be charged more than men for health insurance, could have domestic violence and pregnancy disqualify them from health insurance coverage, would no longer be able to turn to Planned Parenthood for care, and would be banned from accessing abortion safely or legally. In short, Donald Trump’s health care plan would be a disaster for women.

Trump Would Let Your Boss Block Your Birth Control Coverage

Trump not only wants to eliminate the advances in access to birth control coverage, he also supports the Supreme Court’s devastating Hobby Lobby decision, which allows bosses to deny employees insurance coverage for birth control.

If given the chance to nominate a Supreme Court justice, Trump said he would use Hobby Lobby as a litmus test, and only pick justices who agree with the unfair reasoning behind the Hobby Lobby decision — which put bosses’ religious views above employees’ access to birth control.

Donald is Dangerous

Let’s review: Trump would ban abortion, block “millions and millions of women” from access to birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment at Planned Parenthood, and slash insurance coverage of birth control for women.

Donald Trump also paints a frightening, exclusionary picture of America where people aren’t safe or welcome, where women’s access to reproductive health care is thrown by the wayside, and where communities of color are treated with contempt.

With his ever-mounting opposition to reproductive and basic human rights, Trump continues to prove why he is  #NotMyCandidate. His antics also illustrate the clear choice voters will have at the ballot box this November: a president like Donald Trump who is intent on decimating access to women’s health care, or a president like Hillary Clinton who has spent her career protecting it.

Hillary Clinton

Do You Vote PP Action? Then Vote Hillary Clinton

Americans don’t want a president who will further divide us, or strip away the rights of half our population. They want to keep moving this country forward. Hillary Clinton has been fighting for the rights, health and well-being of all Americans for decades.

That’s why the Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorses Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is an outspoken champion for women, and has made reproductive health and rights a central focus of her career.
