Development of talking language translation app for pets

*The aim of the project:

From the time that human encountered animals for the first time, he has been trying to find a way to understand the language of animals and find a way to communicate with them. Nowadays, animals are an integral component of some people live in the same way that children are members of that families. All of us have a dream to understand what animals say and what they want, but only professional experts of zoology can understand their language according to the sounds that animals make or by their body language. So, the aim of this project is the realization of this old dream to understand and translate the language of these animals. This application is developed in such a way that makes it possible for every one to translate language and requests of animals by using talking translator. Something which is only a dream in first glance but we make it possible by using this application...

*How to translate the language of animals by this application 

In summary, translation by this application is done in primary stage (for free of charge use) and professional stage (for special paying users). In the primary stage, translation is done with average accuracy and in two different modes. In the first mode, translation is done at the same time that sound is produced by animal. In this way, a device which application is installed on it (for example, a smart phone) records the sound and compares it with the database which consists of different animal sounds with different frequencies and also in different moods (This archive will be provided by the help of students of the faculty of veterinary medicine) and translation will be done by adapting this sounds with the mood and language which is sampled and exists in database. As an example, when an animal makes some sound because of hunger, application compares the frequency of this sound with samples which are stored in the database and finally recognizes this sound as the need for food and plays this sentence: “I’m hungry please give me some food.” By using this method, owner will find the meaning of sounds. For more charm, there is the possibility to use an avatar for each animal to hear translation from the mouth of this personality. This will be interesting for children and teenagers. From a different point, in addition to the translation charm, this application can be considered as an online game and a character which is the interface between living organisms and talking animated character avatar in the application. In the second mode of the primary translation, the procedure is done according to the state of body and tail and how animal looks. This is usual that sometimes an animal does not use sounds to send a request or to describe it’s feeling but tries to describe it’s request by the way of standing or by setting head, chest or chin at a certain angle relative to the body or more important, by changing the angle of tail relative to the body. In this situation, as no sound comes from his mouth, it is not possible to translate by using sounds and in this situation, translation is done by comparing body states with the samples in the application database (This archive will be provided by the help of students of the faculty of veterinary medicine). By using the camera of the device which application is installed on it (for example a smartphone) photo is taken while the face and side of animal is in front of the camera (Technically procedure of this solution will be described) and application will compare these photos with database and will use the relative recorded sentence by activating an avatar. As an example, when application recognizes symptoms of depression from the body states (while avatar looks sad), the recorded sound will play such a sentence: “I am depressed, please be kind with me until I get better.” As we said before, these two modes of the translation are based on primary and free mode of application and it may not be too accurate but in the professional and advanced mode which will be available for paid users, this translation will be completed by using the combination of two modes and tracking the changes in the heart rate and physical activity of animal (for example in recognition of depression and ADHD) by using different sensors and GPS which is installed on animal holders and collars. This means that application will use the database which is provided for detecting changes in heart rate, movement and physical activity of animal (This archive will be provided by the help of students of the faculty of veterinary medicine) and then it will be compared with the body states or voice recognition which we described in primary mode in such a way to verify recognition or modification of translation in primary mode to get more accurate and better translation of animal language. There is no doubt that in this mode user should buy the special holder which is connected to this application and uses heart rate sensor and GPS and the price will be added by this option. So, the user will be interested in application capabilities in free mode and then pays to buy collar and application, together. Another service that will be provided for paid users is analyzing the health measurements and notifying the location of animal on the map. By using GPS which is installed on the collar, when the animal is lost, user will be encouraged to buy full package of the application.

 *How to use this application:

 At first, application will ask user to make a profile for each animal that he/she tries to translate it’s language. This is a solution to record all of the animal heart rate and movements separately and save them in that profile and more important, depending on the type of animal or race of it, linked database for sounds and body states and movements will be used for that profile to compare measurements. For example, depending on different races of dogs, physical dimensions and proportions of each race varies. In photos which are taken from the side of animal, there will be a frame with a default faded image of that race on the camera viewfinder or smartphone screen and when the photo of animal is located in this frame, processing of information will be started for application. There is no doubt that if the selected race for the dog is not right, the comparison between body dimensions and what we have in the database will lead to no sensible result and application will not be able to process and recognize the language of that animal. So, at the beginning user should make a profile for each animal which consists of Animal’s name, species (by selecting from default options in application), race (by selecting from default races in application), language of talking avatar (for example, English or French which is selectable from the default languages that their sentences are recorded and ready to be used) and selecting avatar animated character associated with each profile. Therefore, if there is more than one pet in a place, user should make a separate profile for each of them and then by switching between different profiles, associated database for that profile will be ready to be used.

All of the owners and enthusiasts of pets which are interested in better communication with their favorite animal (that may be treated as a member of their family).
