So put Mata there! Why compromise a RW just to fill a position that a natural player can fill?

This is another reason the 4-3-3 is best suited for our squad. It would allow Mkhitaryan to cut in from the right hand side, and he can then attack down the middle, or he could attack down the right wing.

With Rooney in the team, he and Zlatan occupy the same spaces, and it slows our attack down, which also prevents Mkhitaryan cutting into the middle and occupying Rooney's space.

Exactly. In a perfect world. Miki would cut inside to them become a false 10. Allowing creativity from out wide while Pogba and Herrera in support

I also wouldn't mind seeing Carrick at CDM, Schneiderlin at RCM, and Pogba at LCM. This would provide a lot of defensive cover for Pogba, so he can attack further up the pitch and not worry too much about getting back.

All these scenarios become viable options only if Rooney is dropped. Rooney's inclusion remains the problem for now.

Exactly. I would give Rooney a few games in the beginning to see how he performs, and if his performances continue as they have during these past few preseason games, I would drop him.

I have been completely unimpressed with his performances in the preseason thus far. If he plays poorly, I hope Mourinho will drop him, unlike LvG.

It's quite the dilemma tbh. Rooney has always needed a run of games to get back into top form/shape. Allowing him to play at the moment is important to have him performing, but it also holds the team back in terms of overall performance.

Looks like Lingard has impressed Mourinho in the last couple of games, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was rotation between Rooney, Mkhi and Lingard. I can't wait to see who will play, competition has to be good for the team.

Some of his best games for Dortmund across all three seasons were at 10. His worst season was predominantly coming in from wide. It isn't as clear cut as you are putting it, he could absolutely play to the same standard in the middle.

I suppose some people may prefer Lingard at RW than Mata at #10. I'm not too sure where I stand on that. Right now, Mata but I'm not discounting Lingard's potential just yet - he's not all that young but he had a late start to his senior career .

I'm not saying that, he'd be amazing at RW and we should play him there but he's also a natural #10 and probably better than Rooney in that position

I'd even have Mata there over Rooney

Dropping him is about playing Miki or Pogba in other positions, Lingard is completely average and Mata has never had a better season than Rooney

I'll be happy with him at 10 with Rashford/Memphis on the right in less important games. For important games he has to be on the right with Mata at 10

We ask for a RW to replace Lingard. We get one of the best wingers in football, and now we are compromising the wingers talents for players that won't get us the results we need to win the league. Do you see the issue? As I said, Miki is class where ever he is played, but coming off of an amazing season in the position that we DONT want to play him, then what's the point?

I said play him at 10 in less important games (cup games against lower league sides and Europa league). Sorry for not making it clear but every PL game is important to me, even Burnley at home.

Memphis needs to earn playing time not cut into others playing time who have proved themselves, Mkhi needs to play as a RW, which is a position we've havent had success at, he played his best games as a RW.

But realistically though not sentimental. He wasnt good as a 10 but became the bundesliga player of the year by playing on the right. So realistically where would you play him?
