I'm playing through The Witcher 3 right now and I'm enjoying the game. I haven't played Skyrim before, but I'm thinking of picking up the Skyrim: Special Edition on ps4 when it releases this fall. To those that have played both games, which did you prefer and why?
The witcher 3
Why because I played Skyrim on PS3 first
And Skyrim bored me half way through it was cool being a vampire rouge tho.
Edit: I also couldn't finish the DLC because the boss would get stuck

I think Witcher 3 is the worst game of the series and its head and shoulders above Skyrim
Best joke thread in a while
Skyrim isn't even close to Witcher 3 in my books.
The design style is so vastly different and I really love how CDPR handles the open world genre.

The Witcher 3 by a country mile. With that being said... Skyrim is still worth playing. You really shouldn't skip out on it. Even if many parts of it pale in comparison to TW3.
The Witcher 3 by far.
Witcher 3 dwarfs Skyrim.
You successfully managed to insult both games while still answering the question.Originally Posted by Imp the Dimp

Damn. You're good. You're damn good.
But seriously, The Witcher 3 is a stronger/better game than Skyrim, IMO.
Witcher 3 by far. Played two times through the story and all expansions. I never actually finished Skyrim once. The story just didn't grab me and felt too open.
The Witcher 3 is one of the best game i ever played. I just want to see a Witcher 4 :'(
It will ruin for a lot of good game after it, though.

I can't stand Bethesda open world games so The Witcher 3 all the way.
I loved Witcher 3 but Skyrim blew me away more at the time. It's hard to compare the two since they offer very different styles but Skyrim was very much my story where Witcher is Geralts story
I also love playing as an archer so the freedom in approach helps Skyrims case there

Witcher 3 is a masterpiece
They are not even close imo

Skyrim, no question.
That's the one with the white haired guy and the horse right?

Skyrim is almost unplayable without mods, at this point.
Witcher 3 by 10 miles.

The Witcherim
I loved Skyrim but after having played Witcher 3 I'm not sure I could ever go back.
I love both for different reasons.
Skyrim is amazing and it did a lot well, especially in terms of lore, world building, atmosphere, music and exploration. But the narratives (both main quest and side quests) are underwhelming and the combat is absolutely rubbish.
The Witcher 3 is amazing and it does a lot of good as well, though I must admit the customization left somewhat to be desired (skill attribution wise), but it has an immensely more engaging main story than Skyrim. And the combat doesn't suck, but it's not perfect either.
In short, Skyrim scratches my exploration itch only, Witcher 3 does it with a combined open world/narrative.

Witcher 3 great for Story etc.
Skyrim great for Waifu mods.
Skyrim great for Waifu mods.
Witcher 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Vanilla Skyrim
There are certainly arguments for Witcher 3 vs Modded Skyrim though.
And somehow the combat in Skyrim still felt better than w3. I don't know how they keep fumbling when it comes to combat in the Witcher series.

Skyrim was a well crafted, ambitious game, with an interesting setting. The Witcher 3, yet, outmatches it in almost every aspect. It set a new standard for the RPG genre, in both technical and narrative dimensions.
I actually like the open-ended nature in Skyrim.
Everybody talks to much in the Witcher.

Witcher 3 is one of the best games of all time, so the Witcher. The story was better, the dialogue was better, the voice acting was better, the combat was better, the creatures looked cooler and the graphics were better. Everything about the Witcher is superior in my opinion.
I definitely had fun with Skyrim at the time though.

Witcher 3.
Better world, characters, story, graphics, quests... In almost every regard, Witcher 3 is superior than Skyrim for me.

Elder Scrolls puts me to sleep.
I'd easily take Witcher 3.

Skyrim "You can play forever"
Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played.
I've admittedly not played any elder scrolls game for very long, but a couple of hours in ... one of them, I honestly couldn't remember which one (3 4 or 5) didn't really click with me and I've never looked back.

Skyrim is only hated here at GAF, so don't even bother to ask.
Witcher 3 is Skyrim with all the roughest edges sanded off, better writing, better combat, and better art.
And I like Skyrim!
And I like Skyrim!
Is Skyrim with mods better than Witcher 3 without mods?
Skyrim, all day, imo it's just the better game. A lot more enjoyable, plus I can't turn into a werewolf in the Witcher
witcher 3 by far
Witcher 3 easily. Skyrim relies too much on mods to make it good. Also Skyrim has the cliche wide as an ocean deep as a pond thing behind it.
W3, but they're mostly just different for me. I like Skyrim for crazy mods and game mechanics, W3 for the world and story and characters.
Bethesda had a very complex game in mind while developing Skyrim. It's just they use a shity engine that doesn't allow them to do much. And they're still using it !Originally Posted by Kaji AF16

Even with its myriad of issues, The Witcher 3 still shits all over Skyrim in every way.
The witcher 3 by far. Skyrim was my first open world rpg. The genre had never really interested me before. The closest game would have been GTA but thats not really an rpg. I loved skyrim and was hooked. It took me 80 hours to do all quests which is a lot of time for me to stick with one game.
Witcher 3 took me 110 hours and i wanted to start over again as soon as i finished. To this day i still have never played skyrim a second time. Maybe when the remaster releases. My second playthrough of witcher 3 took 160 hours with both expansions. I'll definitely be going through it again at some point and much slower to make sure i do stuff i missed!
Everything in witcher 3 is just done way better. Quests, characters, story, gameplay, combat, map size/detail.

Skyrim. The combat in the witcher 3 is horrible, and considering how much i hear about Skyrim's combat, that was pretty shocking.
I also just like the freedom to basically do and explore anything in Skyrim, the story is completely irrelevant to my travels.

Witcher 3, and it's not even close. After playing every Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall, Skyrim felt very bland to me - it hit all the Bethesda bullet points, and didn't aspire to do anything more than that. Witcher 3 really pulled me into the world - the visuals, the writing, quality of the side quests, the characters, the music.
I couldn't get into either of them.
Witcher 3 is obviously the better game, but neither of them did anything for me.

Hmm thats tough. I'm going to say Skyrim just because its the bigger, more immursive experiance to me.
Its strange because Witcher beats it in Graphics, Sound, Story and lots of other areas... But I just find my self being able to enter the Elder Scroll worlds easier and enjoy them more.
I've put over 100 hours into the Witcher 3 and both expansions, but I've put over 300 hours into Skyrim. Skyrim, Borderlands, Rocket League and Civilization make up all the gaming I need it feels like (with some Deus Ex sprinkled in)

Witcher 3 and it's not even close. Skyrim is very good, but I've never considered it as one of the greats
I never finished Skyrim since I found it pretty boring tbh, but The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played.
To Skyrim's defense, since I never finished it it might've gotten absolutely mind blowing after I stopped playing, but I doubt it.

Not a fair match up at all haha.
The Witcher 3 destroys Skyrim.
