A substition until one of our first choice wingers gets injured or isnt playing so well.

Martial had a pretty poor pre-season so if his form continues maybe he'll take his place.

He's going to get his chance over Martial in the coming games because most of the team isn't fully fit or prepared. We are going to need the rotation.

Martial had a pretty poor Euros didn't he?

Yeah he wasn't the best. But to be fair that Pogba lad wasn't very good in the Euros either.

he was not too effective in the one half he played in but that's all he got the chance to do. deschampes played him for 68 minutes all tournament....

The fuck u talking about? His "preaseason" was 45 minutes long (and did just fine vs Galatasary). He's way down on fitness. Though even a 70% Martial is better than a 100% Depay.

How is he way down on fitness? He didn't really do anything on Sunday.

What? Do you not understand the concept of match fitness?

I want Memphis to succeed, but I can't agree with anyone that would want him in the starting XI at the moment. Who would you swap out? Martial? Lingard/Mkhi? No way.

I think there's a future for him, but he needs to apply himself and work hard.

Totally agree, but the potential is obviously there, so it depends on mou. If he has the balls to drop Rooney, i think we'll see more of Memphis (mkhi cam, Memphis RW)

He's an incredible talent, and certainly a player I think Mou will like. Give him some time, some molding in a functional team by a functional manager and he'll still come good.

"incredible talent" based on what? seriously WHAT have you seen that indicates "incredible"

Have our fans really suffered so much that we think a guy who performed like Memphis last season is an "incredible" talent.

Jesus in that case Jesse is astronomically galactico universally talented..in fact he is Messi and Ronaldo combined talented... he did about 50x more than Memphis last year and is still a bang average player

He's talented, based on couple of occasions of brilliance at MU AND the whole season at PSV where he ended up the top striker of the league. If that doesn't indicate he's talented then I have no idea what does. The problem is he's out of confidence, out of match rythm, and tries too much to impress with his skills, that he fails to do the basics. I have no doubt that Mou will fix those mistakes and make him a better player.

As of yet, Martial will be a starter, but as some mentioned, he didn't look sharp at all, so that means Memphis will get his chance. Also, there will be a lot of matches thanks to Europa league and another cups, meaning he will be rotated. So I feel quite confident about Memphis getting better. People need to realize that it was expected he would fail his first year/years at the new league, hell he's still a young boy who needs to learn. He was hyped to the skies, that's his problem.

"brilliance" you mean that one bit of skill against FC Midtjylland or maybe the one bit against Brugge?

You say hyped to the skies...you hype him to the skies when you cream over him taking the ball around a defender who is about 5 classes below where Memphis is supposed to be.

[–]Kr4sTelANNOUNCED POGBA GOOD POGBA -1

when you cream over

Could you tell me where exactly I 'cream over' him taking the ball around a defender?

"brilliance" you mean that one bit of skill against FC Midtjylland or maybe the one bit against Brugge?

There were more occassions where he showed his talent. What about the goal againts PSV? What about the turn and the shot at the post which resulted in Mata's goal?

And funnily enough you seemed to ignore the spell at PSV?

You clearly don't like Memphis and will make shit up to prove your point no matter the arguments being given.

I'll leave it at that, ultimately, we'll see.

some part of me thinks that he'll find himself as a supporting striker to ibra since he has the pace to get in behind and can thrive from ibra's hold up play. idk if it would justify ousting players like mkhi and lingard atm tho

Competition to Martial

At this point it's all in his hands. New manager; new opportunity to shine. If he gets into the starting XI at this point ahead of Martial / Lingard / Rashford or Mkhitaryan it means he'd have to had earned it by playing well / better than them which is only good for him and the team. No worries on the Memphis front.

I think Memphis will primarily be covering Rooney and Martial this year. We'll probably see him a lot in the EL.

If Mou doesn't loan/sell him on the lasy day of the window..

Probably start a lot against the weak teams in cup games and be a sub against anyone half decent. Hopefully building confidence along the way and turning into the player we thought he'd be at the start of last season.

He needs to build confidence and improve his over all game. He has great potential. Europa League would mean a lot of rotation in the squad.
In a couple of years, I would like to see( probably unpopular opinion here) Martial move upfront as a 9 and Memphis in the LW.

Rashford/Martial should occupy those striker spots in the next couple of years. When Rooney is sold and Ibra ends his contract. There's room for Memphis in this squad, he has to be patient and take his chances when they're offered. I really like Lingard, but Memphis has more talent, he's just not as disciplined.

I think Jose can get the best out of him. I see Memphis as a confidence player, once he is finding good form he is on fire. Last season, van Gaal wouldn't play him consistently for him to maintain good form. I want him to be a success at Old Trafford, his dribbling and ball control is the closest that I have seen to the early days of Ronaldo in Manchester. Lastly, I believe that each squad player will play with more ambition this year seeing Ed and Jose with their work in the transfer market where they have made big efforts to bring in top players which will only raise the level of competition at each position.
