He normally looms so large over proceedings

He hasn't for some time now.

Yep, no clue where OP's coming from. Outside of attending matches, has he been seen around the club really at all recently?

There has been a lot of talk about how Pogba left because SAF wouldn't play him. It's well-traveled territory. SAF is still at the club. I think it would be perfectly reasonable to ask about what happened and if the two have spoken since he decided to return. It seems as though the topic is being intentionally avoided, which makes sense if the team is trying to move on to a new era. I was just curious if there is any lingering acrimony between them. It seems like a reasonable question.

The thing we don't know still is exactly why he didn't play Pogba during that injury crisis. He didn't even cover it in his book except to say something like he hated Raiola since day 1 and he got his hands into Pogba. It has definitely been an avoided subject.

“There are one or two football agents I simply do not like, and Mino Raiola, Paul Pogba’s agent is one of them. I distrusted him from the moment I met him."
“We had Paul under a three-year contract, and it had a one-year renewal option which we were eager to sign."
“Raiola suddenly appeared on the scene and our first meeting was a fiasco. He and I were like oil and water."
"From then our goose was cooked because Raiola had been able to integrate himself with Paul and his family and the player signed with Juventus.“

To me it sounds like Ferguson hated Raiola. Raiola told Pogba that he can move wherever he wants. Ferguson caught wind and didn't like someone else dictating what happened with his players, so he refused to play him in the first team.

Well it would have been a bit unfair to ask him that in the interview, who knows how he really feels towards Sir Alex? Not much point possibly causing tension in the club between the two by asking questions, best to just move on.

Good point. I just assume they would have reviewed the topics of discussion beforehand so there would be no surprises and I would think Pogba would jump at the chance to address the relationship and put that episode behind him. I think more likely the club is just trying to focus on the future and not linger on the past.

Don't think there's anything to be read into it at all. I don't remember him commenting on any of our signings since he retired when we made them. I imagine he doesn't want to be seen as looming over the football side of things, which has been a problem in the past for clubs trying to move on from a long-term manager.

I think this is the likely answer. I was just curious because Pogba actually seems like an intelligent, mature young man, and I would think both he and Sir Alex would welcome the opportunity to show there are no hard feelings, much the way Sir Bobby and Jose were shown chatting on camera when Jose arrived. I'm sure there's nothing in it.

In their own words: the breakdown between SAF and Pogba!

SAF has never really commented on any signings since his retirement.

You're right, of course, and I wouldn't expect him to comment here. However, SAF brought Pogba to the club, he's still here and there was a breakdown between the two that led to his departure. I think if relations were ok between them, Pogba might have been asked in the interview if he's looking forward to seeing him or something of the like. I think the club is avoiding the topic, but more likely because they want to focus on the future than because of any lingering hard feelings.

Nor did we see Bobby Charlton. I guess they will catch up later.

He didn't fall out with Bobby Charlton.
