I'm new to this subreddit and thought I would include and exchange I had with my boss the other day.

I've been interning with my local Economic Development office (just a fancy name for marketing) this summer and I'm the only one who has had any sort of background in economics (working toward my BA) in our whole building, save for one person, but she's in a different department.

My boss got an email from our city's finance department showing nominal tax revenues by year.

Boss:shit-shit-shit-shit-, come over here, look at what the commissioner of the revenue sent over.

walks over to desk and looks it over

B: I think this is just fascinating. Look at how fast our city is growing! You can see there where we raised taxes and when the -fancy new seafood restaurant- opened.

M: It's hard to compare numbers year to year like that. Could you send that to me? I can adjust all these figures for inflation and the tax increase from 2012 so we can see how well we're really doing.

B: There's inflation going on?

M: There's usually always inflation

B: No thanks, I'm fine. I like looking at the real data.
