Honestly, I don't see how someone could rate him as highly as Bailly (who is the same age), unless they're looking solely at distribution.... and even then, Bailly is still very good with the ball at his feet for a CB.

I know we spent a lot on Pogba, but seriously, 40m+ for Stones? He was genuinely shit in half the games he played and made very simple defensive errors on a daily basis that 9/10 defenders in the League just wouldn't make.

He's basically the only viable English option when you want to play the ball out from the back and Pep is not going to compromise on possession football.

It's why we needed Blind at the back last season and why LvG went mad trying to buy any/every ball playing CB (Hummels, Ramos).

I understand the valuation but I feel like Pep's put his blinders on and succumbed to tunnel vision. I think compromising on that one skillset and looking at the overall impact of his play on the team is something Guardiola struggles with.

Worst case scenario he actually fixes Stones and England have a good partner for Smalling. Most likely scenario they blow £200m and still fail to find a half competent pair of CBs.

I honestly still don't know why the hype about him is? they say he is good on the ball but he is clearly not that good with it, else he would have been playing further up the field. Also, he is not a good defender either. He is young and might very well become good in the coming years, right now I would say that Sterling was a better buy considering they are both 50 mill. Atleast Sterling played a couple good seasons with Liverpool and see how that turned out.

Super overrated, amount of times he makes naive mistakes by thinking he's a great ball player. I was seriously worried when there was talk of us being in for him. I'm sure he'll become somewhat decent but he's never gonna set the world alight and I guarantee he'll make several high-profile errors in the coming seasons. He'll be nowhere near the types Guardiola likes (Pique)

For 50m, you want a player that's had a world class season. I can't name a single world class game that Stones has had. And even the shittiest of shit have a world class. Caulker had a brace against Fulham once, Henderson scored a nice goal w/ a nutmeg vs Notts County, etc.

Honestly even though he's been here of 5 mins I would take Eric over him all day as he's an actual defender and won't fanny around when it comes to launching it out. It's all good playing out from the back but not when it comes to inviting pressure.

He also seems to struggle if the attacking phase isn't being built up in front of him amount of times last season people would peel off him and have opportunities.

Hopefully when we face city him and Mangala are playing as a pair.
