Fellaini: Mourinho knows my qualities

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini accepts "everyone has to fight for his place" this season in a squad that is full of quality.

Fellaini, who scored in the recent 5-2 pre-season win against Galatasaray, is eager to impress manager Jose Mourinho and believes the battle for selection between players can only be a positive for the team.

Talking exclusively to MUTV, the Belgium international said: "When you play for United you have to have competition. [There are] a lot of good players with quality, but I’m confident. 

"Everyone has to fight for his place; I think that’s why you give everything on the pitch. It’s not easy, so if you’re not good or you don’t do well, the other players then take your place and I think they always push you to be the best. 

"I think I can help the team, I can contribute, I can do well for this team. I think the manager trusts me - he knows what I can do, he knows my qualities and that is important. I want to give everything for the team."

Fellaini will hope to be involved in Sunday's Community Shield against Leicester City, having played in the FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace that booked United's return to Wembley for the season opener.

The rangy midfielder, who also scored in the semi-final win over his former club Everton, said: "We played twice at Wembley - great moments, great memories and victories as well, so I hope this Sunday we can do the same.

"The semi-final was a great game against Everton, my ex-club. We won it and then we had the final and won the trophy. That was for us and I think everyone was happy."

Discussing this weekend's opponents, Premier League champions Leicester, Fellaini continued: "They are a strong team - that’s why they won the league. To win the league you need everything: technique, tactics, physicality, power, and they have it. So yes, it will be a good game on Sunday."

The FA Cup success in May has left Marouane hungry for more and he added: "A club like Manchester United has to win titles and we have to start again on Sunday. We have to focus on the league, on the Europa League and the cups. We have to win trophies this season."
