As much as I'd love him I really can't see him choosing us over Real Madrid. Boy would I love to be proved wrong though!

[–]Sunshine_BagEric the King 17

Same.

Career wise it makes no sense for him to come to United right now. He wants to win the Champions League, and has said in multiple interviews that he doesn't consider himself as having a great career until then.

Having a manager like Mourinho is the most surefire variable for success though. Everything comes in cycles in football. The spanish are dominating now, few years ago it was the Germans. 6-8 years ago it was the English teams.

Picking Madrid over United isn't a simple case of theyre going to win more trophies. Its a really basic way of looking at it. Especially considering the monopoly Barca have over them for the most part.

Although yeah I don't see him coming to United right now, were still in need of work. But the English teams guaranteed will slowly be in contention for the top competitions again within 3 years.

An influx of literally all of the most renowned managers into the premier league in 2 years. It's a matter of time before it's the English clubs turn again to be that upper echelon of clubs again.

I can vaguely see Mourinho winning a CL in his 3rd year at the club. We're in transition but we're not far off being a really good side again.

Yea, the sport is cyclical, however, Madrid, even when they're playing poorly, and aren't doing well, are still always near the top, and always, always in the CL.

Not to mention, Zidane, his compatriot seems to be one of the hottest young management names, I think his presence alone could convince Pogba to go to Madrid.

Still think it's too early to draw conclusions on Zidane. Sure, winning the CL in his first season is an unbelievable achievement. But at the same time, the cynic in me says that they had a piss easy route to the final. City probably being the best team they faced and they're muck. He also had a star studded team featuring arguably one of the best players of all time.

Obviously it's impressive, but I would definitely hold up for another year, let him have a full season in charge and then maybe start shaping our opinion of Zidane.

On one hand he could be the new Pep Guardiola, on the other hand he could be the new Di Matteo

That's why I said he seems to be one of the hottest properties in terms of management.

I never said he is definitively

Hottest prospects, absolutely! Hottest properties, no way! If he left Madrid today would every top club in Europe be chasing him? Not a chance. Definitely be interesting to see how he develops as a manager though.

I hear this sentiment all the time about various players not wanting to cover here because of a lack of quality.our quality will get better with better players, and players know that. The job of the manager is to sell them on his vision of the club and how they see there player fitting into that vision.

Some players don't want to be a part of a project and would rather join an already winning team. Others like the challenge and want to be the reason that a club regained it's footing amongst the world elite.

If Madrid are on for him then the least we can do is drive up the price so they pay top whack for him.

Well.....

Looks like he picked us!

I'm happy you were wrong. :)

Manchester United is making a small step towards a possible deal

it sure as hell will take a lot more than a "small step" to get him.

Needs a feckin miracle

lol this shits funny to read back now. i felt the same at the time of course.

I use the common sense math here. If media say "small steps," then it comes out to "no steps." Because anything done of this level is done with big steps. Unless the club is decisive and shows their intent to the selling club, it won't happen.

Everything about this story leans towards the media fishing for more drama. Throw Man Utd into the mix and get tons more viewers.

Ah the the good 'ol fence sitting from the much loved Di Marzio...

Like the weatherman saying there's a 50% chance of rain

From what I understood, a 50% chance of rain doesn't mean like a "either this or that". It means that it would rain on 50% of the place.

Yeah, it's more like a 50% chance of a random person getting rained on.

[–]RnC_DevMkhitaryan 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

50% of the time, it works every time.

I don't know why people hate him for it. At least we can trust his word when he finally reports done signings.

Right. He's honest about the process. Everything changes and some signings happen so quickly, I think that he literally tells us what he knows. I don't get it either; if he were to spew information and be wrong, we would hate him. If he doesn't say anything specific, because there is not specific information available, he is fence sitting. There is no winning I guess.

Exactly. I honestly believe that there is interest from Real and we are also interested. That's all he said basically. Whereas if the Sun said it, I just think the whole thing was bullshit, why would we even bother.

It sucks that it's a bit of a harder sell this year.

Mourinho - CL = Zidane + CL?

Yeah, just cant see it at all. Just doesn't come across as the type to settle for CL.

I just don't see why he would come here over Madrid.

[–]BadApplePineappleDe Gea 8

Yeah he won't. We're competing with the richest and the best club in the world at the moment, we're not competing with a PL club here. Two CL trophies in three years, playing with one of the best football teams in the world with world class teammates, living in a great city of Madrid with fantastic weather, winter break etc.

Let's face it, if even getting to two CL finals back to back, winning the PL + a cup every other year and being one of the biggest clubs in the world didn't protect us from having our very best players bought by a pale, recovering Real Madrid back then, we won't be able to compete with them now or in the near future. Real can have all the players they want bar Barça's and maybe Bayern's.

Yeah, no... It's a challenge to play for madrid too. It's by no means the easy route and to suggest that is just, rather petty.

I hope it means we get James or Kroos.

    I'd love to have him

Should let Pogba go to Madrid and buy Kroos instead. Pair him up with a player like Schneiderlin and we get a perfect combo. Don't have to depend too much on Carrick to circulate the ball anymore. Kroos is just 26 years old too.

I'd love Kroos so much. But I can't see it happening, it's a step down at the moment from that Madrid side unfortunately. And Mourinho allegedly doesn't fancy James if the Times is to be believed.

It is very difficult but I'd say the deal is easier than Pogba to United. If Pogba joins Madrid, one of Modric or Kroos is going to lose minutes and that is for sure. Hence, might get easier to get Kroos then.

If madrid does get pogba then the midfielder up for sale most likely is going to be one of the more "attacking ones" (james or isco). Madrid likes to play 4-3-3 with kroos casemiro modric and pogba is most likely going to replace casemiro.

Casemiro is the defensive midfielder. They play with Modric and Kroos playing ahead of Casemiro. If Pogba joins he'll play ahead of Casemiro as one of the more attacking CMs, ie. taking minutes away from one of Kroos or Modric. If James or Isco do leave, it will be totally unrelated to the signing of Pogba.

James doesn't seem like a Mourinho signing at all to me either, but what do I know?

If they want Pogba so badly, then I hope they are also ready to lose Kroos.

Lose Kroos or ditch Modric? Get rid o' Isco??

Anyone who thinks Pogba would even look at us over Real Madrid right now (given equal wages) is absolutely daft.

    [–]BadApplePineappleDe Gea 3

"But we're Manchester United ffs. Biggest club in the world! We can sign literally any player we want because we have £££!"

Not only is it Real Madrid, but Pogba has such typical Madridista attitude and "flair".

Only reason we lost that flair was because of the negative atmosphere in the club. You may not realise it but the tenures of moyes and van gaal has led to most people in this sub accepting less of our team e.g "no way can we attract the worlds top talent?!" Um actually yes we can, we used to own pogba and ronaldo, it's just an inferiority complex in this sub which believes that we can't

Pogba's a great player, but I'd prefer him to go to Real.
there's a mercenary streak to him, pretty evident because he left us for cash. His agent's a dick too. so he's perfect for Real.
I wouldn't mind him turning up, he's a great player, but he'd be looking for the next club from day one.
I think we should sign someone else to strengthen midfield.

Sadly, this means he has to be going to Real, if (and a very big if) Juventus were to sell

We need to sign Andre Gomes before Real Madrid give Juventus enough money to buy him first.

Seems Juve are going to buy Pjanic. I'd say he's a better replacement than Gomes

    [–]BadApplePineappleDe Gea 0

"Pogba wants to stay at Juventus but Pep Guardiola could try to buy him and Pogba might want to leave. Jose could also try to buy him too."

    "Sources reporting Pogba to PSG"

If Madrid buys Pogba, Madrid will have to sell someone...Modric? Isco? Kroos?

Wouldn't Real have to sell a multitude of players to finance this deal? If that's the case, why make the move for Pogba? How many players would they have to sell? James, Benzema? Kroos? Isco? Not sure if it would be that many, but why mess up the team that's arguably been the best in the world for the past 3 months.

Is Manchester United a real player here or we just getting tossed around for name recognition?

    [–]DelTrottervan Nistelrooy 0

Forget about it. When you drop out of CL thanks to a shit manager, you can't go for Pogba.

Wouldn't mind having some Real Madrid leftovers haha, 1 James or Kroos please.

    Doesn't Madrid have ffp issues

They're heavily backed by the Spanish Government so ffp is unlikely to say a word. The government subsidises them hence the hate when they signed Bale as it was claimed the tax payer effectively bought him.

Im just saying Pogba coming in wouldnt effect James at all really
