Aggggggh just release the footage, would you? All the footage. Uncut, unedited, verité-style ownage. Fade in on dawn of the first day and just take us through the journey. Fly on the wall. You don't have to edit a single second of it. Let us edit it. Let us see it. It's a shame that networks aren't ponying up for a full series to air from now into perpetuity but God dammit I just want to see some dudes get wrecked, preferably sometime before they serve their multi-year sentences to completion. I didn't even order a fuckin mug so beyond the footage I don't give a shit
I did not fund this project to get a coffee mug. I funded it to Kickstart a worthy cost that puts horrible men behind bars. As far as I'm concerned it's a huge success with what they have accomplished for very little money.
If they burned through that little bit of cash and can't send out some trinkets, no worries here, I'm still very happy with how this turned out.
Why ask for an update you know full well you are not going to get, and even if you were to get an update they would just tell you the same thing they told you last time. Namely that they are really close to getting the show picked up. Which they are not in the slightest. No closer then they were six months ago, or three months ago, or two weeks ago.
They obviously spent the money on the production of their pilot, and intended to spend some of the money upon being picked up on our rewards. They do not have the money to buy any of the trinkets they promised. I mean if they couldn't sell the show in six months. There is virtually no chance at all of it happening over the next six months.
Why ask for something you know you are not going to like. The next update is incredibly likely to be the last update, and the update will either by mission successful. Which is highly improbable now, or sorry guys we tried our best, but the project fell through, and we wont be able to get you your merchandise.
Sometimes crowd funding campaigns just fail. So the question has to be what you want. For the team behind the project to throw in the towel now, or keep trying to net a positive outcome. We might as well wait and see, because the alternative is well rather disappointing to say the least.
While I do not regret funding this project. I certainly understand the sentiment, but we should take some solace from the fact. That ten would be child molesters were caught, and will hopefully end up being out of circulation for quite some time. While I know that is not quite tangible. I am sure the parents of potential victims who have been protected would thank us for what we did, and at the end of the day that is not something you can put a price on.
With that all being said. I think it is becoming increasingly apparent that there is no demand for the finished product, and as such the money from the distribution rights that ought to have been able to pay for the swag is most likely not going to materialize. Now with that being said there is no reason we will not be able to see the finished product.
Eventually the team is going to have to throw in the towel on ever selling the product, and once they do they will probably post it on video sharing sites. So we will most likely eventually see the fruits of their labor and our money. There are a lot of projects you could have invested money in. That would have had you walking away truly empty handed.
The tragedy here is not so much that we are not going to get our trinkets, but that the show will most likely not get picked up, and thus there will probably not be any more shows made. Which is all kinds of disappointing. The original shows were more then entertaining. They were a very powerful deterrent. By the end of the series a lot of predators would panic and run before they even got to the house.
I don't think it's quite to this point yet (I like to give the benefit of the doubt), but we can use legal recourse if necessary as stated in article 4 of the terms of use. I understand the difficulty in fulfilling these physical items in bulk, but the lack of simple communication is a huge concern and might lead to such action. Anyway, here are some excerpts from article 4:
"When a project is successfully funded, the creator must complete the project and fulfill each reward. Once a creator has done so, they’ve satisfied their obligation to their backers."
"If a creator is unable to complete their project and fulfill rewards, they’ve failed to live up to the basic obligations of this agreement. To right this, they must make every reasonable effort to find another way of bringing the project to the best possible conclusion for backers:
-they post an update that explains what work has been done, how funds were used, and what prevents them from finishing the project as planned;
-they work diligently and in good faith to bring the project to the best possible conclusion in a timeframe that’s communicated to backers;
-they’re able to demonstrate that they’ve used funds appropriately and made every reasonable effort to complete the project as promised;
-they’ve been honest, and have made no material misrepresentations in their communication to backers; and
-they offer to return any remaining funds to backers who have not received their reward (in proportion to the amounts pledged), or else explain how those funds will be used to complete the project in some alternate form."
"The creator is solely responsible for fulfilling the promises made in their project. If they’re unable to satisfy the terms of this agreement, they may be subject to legal action by backers."
Well there has been another vague promise posted on the official twitter account. I am not sure as to what those are worth anymore, but here is crossing our fingers.
On June 3rd Chris posted this on Twitter: We are very close to finalizing where HansenVSPredator will go. Stay tuned. Sizzle reel out soon #HansenVSPredator
I've been back and forth a few times with the KickStarter reps and initially they provided me with a lovely email that asked that I wait, that projects can be delayed, etc. I waited. And waited. I finally asked for a refund today. This is what I received in return for my request. We're basically screwed, which I never knew about a Kickstarter campaign. So I basically threw my pledge into the wind and have absolutely nothing to show for it. This is a complete and utter scam. Shame on you Chris Hanson.
Kickstarter Rep Reply:
Hi there,
Thank you for following up with us about the status of this project. I’m sorry you’ve been experiencing these issues with communication. We've reached out to the creator with a reminder of their obligations to their backer community, and have forwarded along your concerns and those of your fellow backers. While we're disheartened that they have not yet updated backers on the status of their project, we're unable to force them to do so — it's the creator's responsibility to communicate and complete the project as promised.
Backing a project on Kickstarter is an expression of trust and can help lead to the creation of new and exciting things. But it’s important to remember that sometimes complications arise that might prevent a project from unfolding as planned — or from happening at all. This certainly isn’t ideal, but we hope that creators and backers will try to communicate with each other through these developments.
Although we are unable to offer refunds, we are constantly working to improve the vetting process for creators and thank you for sharing your experience. We hope you’ll continue to be an active member of the Kickstarter community as we learn and grow.
I backed this about 14 months ago. I'm moving in two months and obviously never anticipated that an address change would be an issue. Does anyone know what I can do?
Still nothing. What's happening folks? It's leaving a sour taste in my mouth, like walking into a random house and being asked to have a seat by a celebrity.
Today's backer update mentioned that surveys ahould be completed as soon as possible, but when I click the Survey tab, I see the following message: "The survey for this reward hasn't been sent by CHRIS HANSEN yet." Any idea what I should do?
There is no figuring about it at this point. The project is obviously bankrupt, and has devolved into what is effectively a pyramid scheme. The rewards were obviously contingent upon the show that was produced actually getting picked up by a network, and early on at that. Without the show being sold. They have no money in order to meet their obligations. Unfortunate though that may be. None of this required ill intent on their part. Most of us expected that a series would come of this. It wouldn't be shocking if Chris and his team thought likewise.
Now it seems that they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel looking for a buyer. All of us want to see that happen, because we genuinely like the idea of a spiritual successor. I think what we are finding galling is the lack of disclosure, and no defined end game. There does come a point when one should throw in the towel. As in just admit that they blew through all the cash, and the show wasn't able to be sold, and do what most failed projects do.
Which is offer up whatever is left. Simply put they should just dump the show off on YouTube so the backers can at least see the people they helped pay to put behind bars getting caught in the act. I don't see the point in dithering much longer. If they haven't been able to sell the show in six months. There is no reason to expect that they can in eight or twelve.
@Dwayne - I don't want it either. Recent update posted only after this was reported to kickstarter to remain within guidelines. He knows he screwed if he had to refund $90k. This project is a joke.
Its great they were able to their first investigation.. But it would also be nice to receive the gift.. I honestly dont even want it. Good luck with cause
I seriously don't even want anything now...left a bad taste in my mouth and why can't they update here rather just on Twitter? Rude, unprofessional, the guy is a douche.
Use this space to cheer the creator along, ask questions, and talk to your fellow backers. Please remember to be respectful and considerate. Thanks!
