I don't think that they would do it quite as overtly as that - it'd be introduced in general taxation. In effect we have stuff like this anyway, as being single/childless means that you don't get all the associated tax breaks, benefits and so forth.

Ya it basically already exist. You get either taxed in a single bracket, or married bracket. Married you pay a lower percent therefore the difference between the single and married taxes is the Bachelor tax. It also affects women so I guess that's cool. I support a flat tax for everyone...

Ancient Rome had a bachelor tax for a time as did many other countries throughout history.

It's not ideal but even a 10% extra tax is probably less than you'd have to deal with if you were married or in a relationship.
