Its begun.
All those pre-finished approved articles, sitting on the 'to publish' pile, awaiting the official confirmation are coming out fast.
And many have this asinine comparison in-built - from ESPN to Rio Ferdinand.
This desperate desire to see 'Goals' from the world's most expensive football transfer.
Please, stop. Im not even a ManU die-hard, and i can tell you now, this is setting up the player to fail.
Whatever gave them the idea that Pogba is a Lampard/Gerrard type player?
He is not an Attacking Midfielder like Gerrard/Lampard scoring 20+ goals a season. (Peak years, All Comps)
One ESPN article states how Mou wanted Gerrard circa 2005, as he was being 'wasted deep in the midfield' - what? Gerrard had his best years in that period, plundering 20+ goals in three seasons, between 2005 and 2009. Anything that suits the dumb narrative, eh ESPN?
If Pogba is to be compared, the better CMs would be Zidane and Scholes. Midfield engines that are the 'heart of the team' and pitch in with 10-12 goals a season. (Peak years, All Comps)
That is who Pogba is 'most like'. Stop trying to imagine him as a Lampard or Gerrard, marauding long range goals playing behind the striker. For the current Man Utd squad, thats either Mkhi or Rooney or Mata, thats NOT going to be Pogba.
In fact, I'm certain, due to this transfer windows' exorbitant CM/DM purchases - Xhaka 35M, Gundogan 25M, Kante 35M and Pogba 105M - once the mass media realizes that they have not enough 'goals' to report on, from these expensive 'world class' signings - we will see much more regular reporting of non-goal/assist stats e.g.
Passing (total successful passes, key passes, forward passes, final 3rd passes),
Tackles and interceptions,
Distance covered etc.
Both the press and experts in England really need to bring more football intelligence to their punditry - this really daft, teenager-level desire to shoehorn Pogba into Lampard/Gerrard role is daft.
TLDR: Pogba is unique, and if you HAVE TO compare him to other legendary modern midfielders - the relevant set would be Zidane and Scholes.
