This was my entry in the Monoplay Contest.

It achieved 18th place, which is...something.

Obviously, credit for the idea goes to this delightful T-shirt.

I'm not sure how I feel about Marx being commodified like that

Hey if Che can do it, why not?

[–]KallamezWe have big booties! 25

But Che always was a poster-boy. He was good with one-liners, had good punchlines in his speeches and was pretty attractive. Marx is good with the thick theory, not the popularizing stuff. Heck, The Communist Party Manifesto was only good as a propaganda flier because Engels edited the shit out of it. And Marx wasn't really attractive.

That's why 'Murica won the Cold War. We can make commie idols into money-generating products, but what are the commies gonna do back? Give away famous capitalist writings for free?

[–]KallamezWe have big booties! 41

Are you sure it wasn't because, given that the political relation between the East Block and the West Block was that of a Prisoner's Dilemma, Reagan bankrupted the USSR by overproducing armaments and war-related assets, which ended up actually fucking the US economy and society pretty badly too? Sure, it was a win, albeit a very Pyrrhic one.

I love how it's the US's fault that that shit show of oppression and scarcity failed.

[–]KallamezWe have big booties! 26

It was scarce because of US' predatory foreign politics and it wasn't anymore oppressive than the US was.

Are you sure you're talking about USSR here?

It was scarce because of US' predatory foreign politics

Nope, it was scarce because of planned economy that failed. Even before the beginning of Cold War, USSR failed to feed its own people, starving millions before WWII. Then, after winning the WWII, it missed the post-WWII boom capitalist Europe had (even as being a victor nation with all the perks), and fell behind. Sure, arms race robbed a lot of resources later, which made things worse, but it definitely wasn't the main problem. Besides, it's a bit funny to call US foreign policy predatory when talking about USSR. The latter occupied half of Europe against their will for almost half a century, and invaded them with tanks if they wanted to even become neutral.

They always experienced lack of goods, it was just worse at times. Just go look at a former commie state, you'll see lots of one-type buildings with non-existant or very similar facades. A clear result of no competition and state-controlled companies. And might I add that the quality is very low, especially compared to what I see in similar-aged buildings overseas in Finland.

Things like plastic bags, chewing gum and famous brand clothes were in very high demand due to not being available in USSR. McDonald's in USSR? More wanted than anything else.

The state model was so stagnant and oppressive that with Gorbachev trying to make the state more liberal, it just collapsed under its own weight.

it wasn't anymore oppressive than the US was

Yeaah, that's not correct at all. I'm pretty sure USA didn't occupy and annex several countries post-WWI, deport natives to Alaska, enforce a one party system, install full censorship, ban private property and companies, effectively ban travelling abroad etc.

or maybe shit was scarce cause communism is inherently inferior and drags everyone down to poverty besides party bigwigs

[–]KallamezWe have big booties! 2

Confirmed for not knowing what communism is.

Communism "a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs." This when applied to the real world leads to brutal authoritarian states that silence dissent violently such as the khmer rouge, the U.S.S.R ad china

[–]KallamezWe have big booties! 1

The economy did pretty well under Reagen last I checked no matter how much economists can't understand how. Considering the US is the sole superpower now it certainly wasn't a Pyrrhic victory. The US won. Why people are still so salty about it 30 years later is beyond me.

[–]KallamezWe have big booties! 5

The economists understand well how the US did "well" in Reagan's years. He spent a shit-ton while decreasing the taxes the most rich people payed, as he enjoyed the natural decrease in unemployment rate, none of which was brought about by his policies. Thing is, while he had a nice legacy to gloat about, he left the US with a public debt of a little over 2 trillion dollars for the future to deal with. So, nice one Reagan.

Salty

implying I'm mad

It's just a factual assessment of what led to the downfall of the USSR. Why are you so defensive?

Slightly more difficult to kill Rasputin though.

What about when you starve after the revolution?

EDIT:

More than half of the (nonspoiled) harvest was removed from Ukraine in 1931. Many collective farms met their requisition targets only by handing over their seed grain. Stalin ordered on 5 December that collective farms that had not yet fulfilled their annual requirements must surrender their seed grain.

Stalin knew perfectly well, and from personal ovservation, what would follow. He knew that famine under Soviet rule was possible... By summer 1932, as Stalin knew, more than a million people had already starved to death in Soviet Kazakhstan

Stalin in August (still on vacation) offered his closest collaborators the theory that collectivization was missing only the correct legal basis. Socialism, he claimed, just like capitalism, needed laws to protect private property. The state would be strengthened if all agricultural production was declared to be state property, any unauthorized collection of food deemed theft, and such theft made punishable by immediate execution. Thus a starving peasant could be shot if he picked up a potato peel from a furrow in land that until recently had been his own... The simple possession of food was presumptive evidence of a crime. The law came into force on 7 August 1932.

But what do I know, its all revisionist history I guess.

This is literally posted every single time the USSR is mentioned. Just stop.

Do you want me to list out every single famine in the West and Western controlled colonies? How about the modern day slavery back in Belgian Congo where women and children would have their hands cut off when their husbands and fathers were unable to meet their quota.

Everyone seems to ignore oh, I dunno, the famine which killed around the same number of people under Britain's watch.

Prepare yourself for the pictures.

The decision of the British empire to the destroy food crops in Bengal to make way for opium poppy cultivation for export reduced food availability and contributed to the famine.

You mean things we also criticize? Just because a guy in my neighborhood shoots someone, it doesn't become acceptable for someone to shoot a person in another.

No one is arguing that and no one is arguing that the famine wasn't a tragedy. I'm saying that it's blown out of proportion by revisionists.

No one ever remembers famines by Western countries... So if we're going to mention Holdomor at the mention of the Soviet Union, then why not mention the famines that had taken place due to colonial mismanagement by imperial powers?

yeah, but in this case it's kind of like "hey, I shot this guy. But look over there, he shot a guy too! And he was white!"

[–]Cirion_Spellbinder 24ポイント25ポイント  (2子コメント)

I think the point is that the Russian's revolution didn't solve famines, not that capitalist countries never have famines.

If I'm wrong and it actually is the latter case that was meant, you've effectively debunked their claim.

Well after the collectivization of agriculture Russia never had another famine. The gross negligence involve in collectivization created a pretty bad one, but famine had been pretty endemic to Russia for thousands of years before hand.

Hell, famine in Russia, China, and India has always been bad.

Tens of millions of Indians died by famine over the course of British rule.

The British gave the ultimate "fuck you" to the Bengalis by raising their taxes 10% at the height of the famine. Nearly 25% of Bengal's population died. 10 million Bengalis died, and that was then, when the world population was far smaller.

I even feel bad for never having learned ANY of this until college.

Hell, if he had had the slightest bit of intelligence and a little luck he might have even prevented the revolution (though that's not likely). He just really shouldn't have been a monarch.
