Liberal on cb2 whining about "tankies"

The term "tankie" was originally used by socialists to refer to someone who supported events like the Soviet intervention in Hungary. It was used as an insult because the view was that such people had placed the Soviet State above the interests of actual labor, and were using tanks against the masses instead of for them.

Now it's used by liberals to refer to anyone who thinks socialism is more than the government doing literally anything at all.

Tankie is basically a synonym for communist most of the time. We used to use it in a more kind-hearted jab at our marxist-leninist comrades i.e. "which FRSO again? The refoundation one or the tankie one?" but now it basically means "You are communist and I hate you".

That thread is less a criticism of the far right tendencies of reddit than a criticism of anything that is an inch left of "left" liberalism, i.e. anything left of supporting the white supremacist warmonger Hillary Clinton. Some people in there are complaining that there's too much criticism of the alt Reich movement. Lol if you want to criticize anything left of Bernie, there's hella meta subreddits to do that. There can never be enough scrutiny of neo nazis imo
