Mate they're just two posts on the Internet on a subreddit, I can see your POV but does it really matter what other people think? Also the LvG bday post I made was around the time the Pogba pictures were released which correlates to a high activity on the Sub I presume, so I think that's more the case than what you're inferring.

Well, people seem very critical of what I think so I don't see why not. This is a discussion form, for Christ's sake.

Mate I have said it before and I will say it again. On days like this where there is so much going on you get every window licker under the sun on here and posting.

Unfortunately a lot of people don't care and don't want to know like that moron below.

Good on you for caring. Don't let it ruin your day. Pogba is back and people are excited that will rule the roost for posts today.

Edit just to clarify the moron in reference is the fella that was rude and obnoxious and had been down voted to oblivion.

Anyone else below this post sorry for the confusion !

See, the thing is, I'm not comparing this to the signing of Pogba, which is clearly a big deal. Just a clear comparison of two birthdays summing up a lot of people's interest in United's history. But there we go.

I understand mate. I haven't even turned on the tv today packing for a long trip but a lot of younger ones won't know who Jimmy Murphy is but everyone knows who LvG is!

That eijet below could do with reading about Newton Heath but his ignorance is his own downfall.

Well I mean the amount of people who are aware of events in the few months will be far higher than those aware of the club's history from 40-50 odd years ago, tbat's just inevitable. I'd say given the timings of the posts and the nature of reddit the Murphy post actually got a pretty respectful amount of likes.

You're coming off as a snob. Might I add, getting annoyed over how other people spend their time is a complete waste of your time. We all want to appreciate the club in own ways. Do not judge if you don't want to receive similar treatment.

Maybe I am. Maybe some people just don't like opinions that show them how they are.

If asking people to care a little about the people who made United what they are, then I guess I am a bit of a snob. Amazing that's all that is required for that.

Maybe some people just don't like opinions that show them how they are.

Who cares about them? I'm all for pushing appreciation of those who deserve it, but if you're using somebodies birthday as a weapon to browbeat other people then you are as bad as anybody you wish to criticise.

Is this really the message you want to promote?

[–]AlpacamyLlama[S] -3ポイント-2ポイント  (4子コメント)

The birthday is symptomatic, no? I'm not exactly looking for birthday cakes and cards to be sent out. Just seemed a fair point of comparison.

If all you wanted to do is promote scholarly interest in the club you wouldn't have mentioned any of the shit about how annoyed you get over other people not sharing your views and opinions. You're using it merely as a vessel, and that is more sad than any pogba flight tracking.

[–]AlpacamyLlama[S] -1ポイント0ポイント  (2子コメント)

Wouldn't I? Do people not get passionate about topics they care about? My reaction is irrelevant obviously, but as it was a self post I felt some personal reaction was required

[–]IchDienMartial 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Reddit is the time and place for people to get personal and express their frank opinions, but when your "passion" makes you look down on others, perhaps it's time to reevaluate your position.

[–]AlpacamyLlama[S] 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

You haven't really explained why though? We've established that Reddit is a place to voice your opinions so why should this opinion not be voiced? Is it just the ones that oppose your point of view and make you uncomfortable.

You just keep saying it's a waste of time, or shouldn't be discussed. Maybe edit one of your comments above again so I can see something.

Mate, get off your high horse for Christ sake before you fall and hurt yourself.

Of course Jimmy Murphy had a bigger influence on the club, and I agree that he 'deserves' more upvotes and comments accordingly. But realistically, more people here remember (and thus have things to talk about) Van Gaal, who was our manager until very recently, than Murphy, who most users here weren't even born during his life time, let alone remember his contributions to United directly.

And while history is absolutely a crucial part of Manchester United, it's not as if the post about Jimmy Murphy was ignored completely, there was still discussion there as well.

Regarding Pogba, I agree that discussing and showing respect for such an influential figure in our history should get priority over updates on Pogba's whereabouts and the like, but realistically it is to be expected that the average person here is going to be more excited about the near future of the club (and updates regarding it) that they will experience personally than history from half a century ago that they didn't experience themselves. But this is due to the nature of the internet and Reddit; if you were to go to a United discussion between older United supporters, I'm sure they'd be more interested in discussing and sharing anecdotes about Murphy than tracking Pogba's every move or even talking about Van Gaal.

Edit: changed 'more more interested' to 'be more interested'.

Good points. I know it is easier to be absorbed in the here and now. We all do it to an extent.
