Paul Pogba to bring personality Manchester United have lacked, says Gary Neville

Paul Pogba will restore some of the personality that has been missing from Manchester United in recent seasons, according to Gary Neville.

A potential world-record transfer is imminent after the France midfielder arrived at United's AON Training Complex to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move from Juventus.

Once completed, Pogba will be the fourth signing Jose Mourinho has brought to United since replacing Louis van Gaal, following the arrivals of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer.

And former Manchester United captain Neville believes the acquisition of Ibrahimovic and Pogba would see the club re-install a degree of arrogance synonymous with his time at the club.

"It's important, not just for United, that they sign players of stature and personality," Neville told Sky Sports News HQ.

"With Mourinho going there, and now with Zlatan and Pogba, they have players who can fill the shirt, they will stick their shoulders out.

"They will have the strength and personality, which is what Manchester United haves lacked for two or three years.

"Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra among others left, they had big personalities and they were propping the club up in the changing rooms.

"You need big shoulders and guts to play for Manchester United. The idea of Zlatan and Pogba returning there is big on the personality front."

Pogba's expected £89m transfer would take United's summer spending through the £140m mark and follows the £250m spent during Van Gaal's tenure at the club.

Several high-profile signings - most notably Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao - failed to hit the heights during their time at Old Trafford.

However, Neville believes the vast sums forked out by United this summer have been invested wisely in players he feels signal the club's intent.

He added: "It's important that United made a statement, they've spent quite a lot of money in recent years without getting anywhere.

Sky Sports' unrivalled line up of 124 live PL games this season will be shown in Ultra HD

"It's important they make a statement in terms of this signing to show what they are."
