The guy has been playing as a center back for over a year now and has been playing in any position we need him to play. He gets a lot of shit because sure he's not that big or physical but he made some great tackles and played controlled football out the back. He's a very consistent player who doesn't get enough praise i believe. What do you guys think?

PS- Luke Shaw and Bailly are beasts, i thought Shaw would be a bit afraid to attack after his injury but he was great especially defending the EPL POTY

I think he could easily become our John O'Shea 2.0, however its unknown if he'd be up for being a utility player.

If he wants to play at an elite club, he's going to have to accept a role as a utility/1st choice off the bench option.

He's not going to be offered a starter spot at Madrid, Bayern, Barca, PSG, City, Juve etc.

If any of those clubs wanted him, it would be in a bench/squad role.

I'm happy with him as Carrick's understudy, 3rd choice LB and 3rd or 4th choice CB.

I'll feel a lot better about the defence if we can bring in another CB. I don't want to be one Bailly/Smalling injury away from 50 matches of Blind as starting CB.

Yup we are going to continue to see Blind a lot this season, especially since Bailly might be heading to AFCON mid season.

Everytime he gets the ball, I know it's going to be a good pass. I want him as holding midfielder where his size is less important. If that guy had bailly's physical atributes, he would be a monster.

Size might be less important at holding midfield but his lack of mobility is much more important.

Blind played as a DM for us quite a lot in LVG's first season and he was pretty poor.

It's a lot easier to be good on the ball at CB with zero pressure on the ball, totally different story in midfield

Not to knock on the guy but a lot of people here have very short memories. He was skinned on the counter plenty times when he played DM last year. He's less exposed when he has another line of defense in front of him when he plays CB. Excellent passer and reads the game well but his lack of physicality and pace lets him down

Yep, he looked short in quality both on the ball and defensively at DM. At least at CB he's quality on the ball compared to the average CB

Yes. I agree with you completely. It will all depend on how Mourinho lines up but I think he'd be strong in this kind of position. Helping the offense get going up the pitch, but also providing support defensively and filling in the gap for an overlapped fullback. He's got great skill at landing some deep lob passes as well. Haha, almost like a damn American football QB.

I have high hopes for Daley at United and have really enjoyed seeing him play with us since his move

i do think that a CB pairing of Bailly and Smalling might be the most dominate for us but Daley still can contribute a lot to the side.

he may not be the biggest or fastest but he is able to play CB (and anywhere really) bc he has a great understanding of spacing and movement on the pitch.

like gary neville, his work rate, passion, organization skills, and leadership will be the defining skills for him not his athleticism or speed, and i think we need that type of player at the moment

well he shouldn't be our starting cb, so understandable frustration. but in terms of his quality as a player i dont think theres any doubt he's brilliant. one of the best passers of the ball in the squad and intelligent af.

Luke was good offensively but he nearly cost us a goal when he misjudged a ball mahrez brought down in the box. He had a couple of moments on defense to forget but he's young and missed most of last season.

Telling quote in mourinhos post match interview. Mentions that baileys done great to settle and show his quality, despite not having smalling there next to him.

Blind is rarely touted as a starter but him and lingard are so consistent, there difficult to leave out. See both forcing there way into the starting line up eventually.

I think Blind can easily be partnered with Bailly/Smalling against teams who totally park the bus or are very hard to break. Against bigger (tall) opponents, Bailly-Smalling will do

Bailly at AFCON means Blind will have plenty of time at CB and also he can rotate with Shaw and Carrick in FA Cup/League Cup/Europa League games. Plenty of game time for him. He's a great squad player to have and so under rated by majority of our fans.

I hope he can develop into a CDM in a single-pivot 433 primarily, and them backup CB or LB secondarily. If he stays in the club he's got plenty of time, I mean we have Carrick who is 35 that is still playing for us, I'm sure Blind will be rewarded if he waits.
